[REQ] Distant Land Files

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 12:36 am

Could somebody post their MGE distant land files, please? I've been trying to set up MGE in Wine, but I've been having trouble with the distant land generation. The texture seems to generate fine, but the mesh generation phase seems to just give me a long string of errors. It looks like generating the files in Windows, then copying them over to the Wine install should work, but I would like to know for sure before taking the time to scraqe together enough spare parts to build an XP computer.

Trouble is, everyone has different texture replacers and mods, so everyones distant land will be unique to their setup.

I don't really care about that. I just want to see if I can see it at all. If I can see the distant land mesh, even if it's un-textured, then I'll try setting up a Windows PC and generate it that way so it matches. If not, then I'll just make do without it like I always have.

MGE or MGE XE? I could send over my MGE XE files, but I don't think they will be compatable with MGE.

What are the errors? Maybe it's a native MGE problem rather than Wine-related

I'm on windows 7 and my MGE crashes when I try to generate distant land. I've often thought about trying to get the files from someone else, even if it doesn't match up with my game exactly... I've never even had a chance to see what distant land can do outside of screenshots and videos.

Here's my http://dl.dropbox.com/u/46396473/distantland.7z folder. Dunno if this will work for you. I'll only keep that file up for 24 hours, as it's pretty big (62 meg).

The errors are only displayed the terminal, so I suspect it's a Wine bug. Starting the application gives me:

fixme:sync:CreateMemoryResourceNotification (0) stub
fixme:shell:URL_ParseUrl failed to parse L"System"
fixme:shell:URL_ParseUrl failed to parse L"System.Windows.Forms"
fixme:shell:URL_ParseUrl failed to parse L"System.Drawing"
fixme:shell:URL_ParseUrl failed to parse L"Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D"
fixme:shell:URL_ParseUrl failed to parse L"Microsoft.DirectX"
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x32d3a0,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:shell:URL_ParseUrl failed to parse L"System.Drawing"
fixme:gdiplus:GdipGetFamilyName No support for handling of multiple languages!
fixme:shell:URL_ParseUrl failed to parse L"MGEgui"
fixme:gdiplus:GdipCreateHalftonePalette stub

Those seem to be the reason that text is cut off in the UI. For instance, instead of "Camera effects affect the HUD" I have "Camera effects affect the"

Generating the mesh gives me:

fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8.

repeated about 15 times a second until the operation finishes.

Edit: Fixed text formatting error

Just finished testing out PirateLord's distant land files, still nothing. Oh well. Next time I rebuild my computer I'll see what I can do about dual booting. Thanks for your help guys.
