Detect Life disappears on Conjurers or possibly any one who

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 6:17 am

Note that I have the x-ray detect life mod. I just started noticing with these conjurers, it seems when they cast a spell, I can't see them anymore with detect life. I mean I can see them, but they just don't have their exoskeleton visible for me to see. Anyone know what's wrong?

Here's my load order.

I use the x-ray detect as well, and see the same issue. I think its an engine bug, and not necessarily something that even CAN be fixed. I have also discovered that detect life, does NOT detect invisible actors..... that might be another mod doing that though.

I think it's just that the x-ray detect life can't detect invisible enemies. I saw the comments on the mod's page on tesnexus and people were saying how they couldn't see invisible enemies with this mod.

Ooh, I haven't seen that one before. People keep making the same mistake... very pretty, though! :P

That's a membrane shader, and that's why you're seeing both of those issues. Most buff spells have membrane shaders -- and only the one most recently applied will show. Membranes are basically a texture overlay, and invisible creatures don't render any textures which is why they don't show either.

Particle shaders have none of these issues, and that's exactly why the vanilla shader is particle-based. They're also significantly harder to make pretty, though http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25204.

Note that it's possible to have both a membrane and a particle swarm in the same shader definition. Y'know, if that inspires anyone. :)

I take it, it doesn't have the same problem as the x-ray detection with NPCs casting spells on themselves.
