Some Advice Please

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 2:46 pm

Just installed Morrowind (first time).

I was wondering are there any easy to install overhaul/compilation mods out there?
Looking for mods that 'update' the graphics, sound, fix bugs, and maybe add content.

Stable mods that are tried and true is what I want. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

The biggest problem I am finding is determining what is good, what is stable etc. Is there a rating system of sorts, maybe a top 10 etc?

thanks.

www.planetelderscrolls.com is what you want

MGSO + LGNPC is what I′d recommend for a first timer.

€: Use google to find them

I am a bit confused here. Is Knot's guide current? He makes no mention of the Graphic and Sound Overhaul?
I am just looking for tried and true mods, easy to install, no compatibility issues etc.

So far I am leaning towards the Graphic & Sound Overhaul, along with LGNPC mod.

Is there one guide that is up to date?

Curious, you have a lot of mods selected and they all sound great, but how difficult would it be to install those?

The MSGO comes with a very easy to use installer.

For other mods, you install them in the traditional manner. Which is verrrry easy to do.
Read the Pinned Threads, there is a http://www.gamesas.com/topic/106063-morrowind-mods-faq/page__p__1772866#entry1772866 that will guide you.

Knots keeps his guide current, but has put together several compilation mods instead of using the Overhaul. Really, it's all up to whether you want a quick setup, or want to take longer sorting through texture mods.

I just came upon Morroblivion: The resurrection of Morrowind.
http://morroblivion.com/

Would this be a better way than Morrowind 2.0 Overhaul?

Any advice/insights would be appreciated.

To me Morroblivion looks less detailed than MGSO, and is not compatible with many Morrowind mods you want to add afterwards.

I lovelovelove MGSO. I've been able to add a ton of mods to it without a problem. It will truly knock your socks off, especially if you're used to looking at vanilla Morrowind.

@Destiny of an Emporer, check your pms. But as with the others, I would reccomend a custom overhaul of Morrowind rather than Morro-blivion.

Agreed waswar. Morroblivion looks neat, but honestly I'm not terribly fond of Oblivion's graphics anyway. I love the look of fully modded Morrowind so much better.

The overhauled Morrowind typically looks better, and runs considerably better. I must have 4 times the mods I have for Morrowind than for Oblivion, and loading (excepting the first loadup when playing the game) is ALOT quicker, the game is at a whole, alot more stable.

I want to thank everyone for offering assistance. OldFashionGuy in particular who walked me through the MGSO install.

The game looks spectacular, especially considering when it first came out. Now that I have this installed, I am looking to go a bit further, and install a few more mods that will enhance gameplay, without being overly too difficult to install.

One last question - is there a way to keep the map on? It is somewhat overwhelming to memorize all the names of people, cities etc. Having a map visible at all times would be great, but I have been unable to determine how to make the map screen appear while in movement.

thanks in advance

You can "pin" the windows which appear when you open your inventory etc. Switch to the world map, shrink the window to a managable size and pin it. When you dismiss the inventory (and your skills and stats etc) the map should still be there.
