PatchingMod Issues?

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 8:27 am

I decided to give Oblivion a go having never played an Elder Scrolls game and wanting to give it a shot before Skyrim. I didn't want to mod it up too much so I just patched all the way up and then installed all the dlc along with unofficial patches and the expansion. As far as I know everything should be in working order, I use the mod manager and it does report conflicts but considering all the unofficial patches were made by the same people and I believe I have the correct load order - http://tinypic.com/r/2urnq0l/5
For some reason my game still seems buggy as I encountered an error where my game crashes immediately upon load (the load bar doesn't even budge) straight to a windows error dialogue. Any advice?
If I have to reinstall what mods should I use if I want the smoothest most bug free experience?
Oh, and I could not seem to get those unofficial mods for the dlc to work as much as I tried changing the load order :( Any advice on that? I would really like to just be able to use all the patches
Just messing around I got it to load an earlier save and when I tried reloading the most recent it did load... a little bit? I know the obvious suggestion would be to start disabling mods but considering there just patches I figure there must be an underlying issue

(Haven't got any useful answers elsewhere so I copied and pasted all the posts I made on another forum, sorry if it's a bit long winded)

I suggest you use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20516 for ordering your mods. And ignore the conflict reporter in OBMM, it's rubbish.

However, with just the Unofficial Patches you shouldn't CTD, which suggests it's more of a hardware issue. Can you post a dxdiag report please?
Post a dxdiag.
XP: Go to Start->run, type “dxdiag” and hit enter. Click the Save All Information button near the bottom right. This will save a Dxdiag.txt in C:\ by default. Then open the dxdiag.txt and copy/paste the information into your post.

VISTA/Windows 7: Go to Start->Search, type “dxdiag” and hit enter, click the Save All Information button near the bottom right. This will save a Dxdiag.txt in C:\ by default. Then open the dxdiag.txt and copy/paste the information into your post.

1. Dude. Spoiler tag. :P

2. Crashing before the main menu is 99.9% caused by loading a mod that has a required master, but not loading the master. I don't have most of the DLC, so I don't use most of the patches... but I see there are two Thieves Den patches and only one is active, are you sure you don't need to activate both?

Lol, oops. Haha.
But yea, I'm using TES4Edit to go through and clean the entries, and then wrye bash. Hopefully that will fix my problems.

AFAIK there's nothing that needs cleaning in any of the patches. (There is in a couple of the DLCs, tho.)

You definitely should be using BOSS. It tells you whether a mod actually needs to be cleaned, or whether the "dirty edits" are false positives and should be left alone.

Yea I ended up running it. Now realize I don't even need Wrye Bash... everything should be working but that saves still dead. Any way to fix the save or is that a goner?

BOSS tells me everythings checking out but now I'm getting CTD errors everytime I exit. For all I know the game is more functional but a CTD error everytime I exit? I would hate to find out its a hardware problem ;(

CTD on exit can be considered "normal". If you want to get rid of it install, FastExit2, requires OBSE.

And what about my save? Is there anything I can do about that or to prevent it in the future? I had to reload to an earlier save and from what I've read once that happens to a character its pretty much over.
