Odd problem with enchantment glow

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 4:18 pm

I've got a bit of a strange one here - I'm suddenly getting the hideous "plastic wrap" enchantment effect back again, but ONLY on ebony weapons. I'm using plugin-less no glow, and have tried reinstalling it, using the plug-in no glow mod, re-installing Darknut's weapons textures, no joy.

I have recently upgraded to MCP 2.0 and wondered if it was something to do with the bumpmap reflection setting but morowind.original.exe is having the same issue so I guess it's not the code patch. As I say this is only happening with ebony weapons - enchanted Dwemer weapons, steel helmet etc are all fine and without any nasty glow.

Anyone got any idea what might have gone screwy? Help much appreciated as it's driving me nuts!

Are you using any ebony mesh replacers?

I don't think so, certainly none that I've changed recently unless Darknut's Weapons Retextures changes any meshes, but as I say I've reinstalled that anyway with no joy.

I tried regenerating my distant statics last night after installing some more of Vurt's trees and MGE fell over in a heap with "fatal error" trying to generate distant statics so something is screwed somewhere though. I guess I'll have to back out the trees and see if that fixes it but I can't imagine how that would affect ebony weapons tbh

Well, if you get hit by fatal error, I'm pretty sure it shows which meshes have a problem. For the ebony problem, try binding toggle distant land to a key, and see if it's a problem with mge.

You can also skip the statics in the distant land wizard in MGE IIRC, but how about to reinstall MCP and any replacer you're using now.

No, sadly the error didn't actually say what was wrong. I've already re-installed MGE and even tried without it and still getting the glow effect so I think it must be a corrupt mesh somewhere. Oh joy...I'll start re-installing things tonight I guess. I've probably still got meshes in there for mods I haven't used in years in all honesty

Hooray, sorted it. MGE crashing was due to my not having properly removed Vurt's Grazeland Unique trees before switching to the Japanese version, and the enchantment glow bug seems to have been down to some ebony meshes in /w/ that I thought were Darknut's but apparently aren't so goodness only know where they came from, but deleting the little swines has fixed the problem. Gotta love this game...

Yep. If you have the time, check out Mash's Installers function.

Make sure every time you uninstall that you delete the remaining data files and such within your morrowind folder. That'll get rid of any bad files. Just for the future.
