The Dark Brotherhood and Politics

BTW I dislike the tight armour as well. I thought the Oblivion design was good, but i hate the skyrim one ...

I keep hearing this, but I don't think there was a http://chorrol.com/files/141/ob_concept11B.jpg http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111028154345/elderscrolls/images/8/84/Dark_Brotherhood_Female_Armor.jpg between the two. Both armors look remarkably the same, especially compared to other armors that made their way from Oblivion to Skyrim. I get that its "tight", but it isn't any tighter than the Oblivion one, or even the http://bestgamewallpapers.com/files/elder-scrolls-3-morrowind/dark-brotherhood.jpg

RavenBlade, as far as politics goes, the Dark Brotherhood would look after itself if need be. Any organization would. And while they wouldn't take their own initiative in politics, they have, from assassinating the Emperor in Skyrim to attempting to assassinate the Nerevarine, they've always been involved in politics, though they've always taken the position of a neutral party to implement the will of either (and sometimes both) side(s). Its the best way to keep the business going.

As it has been made clear in previous titles, the Dark Brotherhood used the fear of retaliation to make sure their organization continues to survive and prosper. But, as any organization that relies on intimidation and fear has probably learned at some point, these methods are a double-edged sword and often inspire retaliation that far exceeds the intimidator's original levels of brutality and violence. The Dark Brotherhood really hasn't seen much of this itself, as far as we know, but when faced with such a retaliatory situation, its hard to believe they wouldn't move to defend themselves.

Also, yeah, neither the Empire nor the Thalmor has much use for them. The Empire has the Oculatus, which is full of loyal, order-abiding members (not chaotic sociopaths) willing to assassinate and die for their Emperor. The Thalmor probably has their own organization of spies and whatnot, but they'd probably rather die than ever work with the Dark Brotherhood. The Thalmor hates Sithis and everything he represents. In fact, when I first heard through the forums here that the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary in Bravil was destroyed, I thought it was the Thalmor that destroyed it during the time that they held Bravil during the Great War. Perhaps the Empire doesn't have the drive to eliminate the Dark Brotherhood, but the Thalmor certainly does. Though I suppose they're busy with more important things, at the moment.

I still don't see it. :\

Anyway, I found a fan-made concept http://attachments.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=715981&d=1246837135. I guess its most similar to the Oblivion one, but probably 100% cooler.

Though, contrary to the image The Elder Scrolls and Assassin's Creed is pushing, I don't really think assassination organizations should have uniforms...

I agree, look at the Morag Tong the only uniform they had was a helmet and few members even wore it.

I don't like the red parts on the Skyrim one, tbh. Plus i think it makes you look too skinny with a massive head lol. I imagined that the armour in Skyrim would have looked heavier than the Oblivion design because of the cold climate, like thickish black leather with a large hood. Something that looks stealthy and sinister but fits the world around it.

The Brotherhood splintered from the Morag Tong on the principle that they were too involved in politics in the first place. Keep this in mind, the Dark Brotherhood is a bunch of bumbling oafs until the MC comes in and starts hauling ass towards whatever the hell is going on. They also boarderline between two distinct groups, psychopaths who love to kill just for the sake of killing, and professional assassins, who take themselves and their job very seriously, and hold no love for any political gain.

Yeah, because no organizations has ever betrayed their original intent...

After spending how many centuries hailing Sithis and chanting about their beloved void, these guys aren't exactly the ominous "We will control through fear." kind of guys as they are people who provide a service. The fact that they still take just about any job and not politically moving themselves to become a major player in the world speaks volumes on its own. These guys are followers, not leaders. There is a reason why its highest position is called Listener, and turning their back on the Night Mother never ends well.

The Dark Brotherhood is a religious faction of The Morag Tong.
*I didn't mean Faction. I ment Fracture. they left the Morag Tong and started a seperate independant organization based on Sithis and the Night Mother.'

Where the Morag Tong kills for money and challange to prove their skills, based on politics and targets and possibility of failure, They actually take contracts because they will be difficult and refuse contracts that require no or little skill, or they just see it as below them and their reputation.

The Dark Brotherhood kills whoever the Listener tells them too regardless if it is an old woman or a helpless baby or an old man who is already dying of an illness and only kept alive by top notch medical care, and the price for all contracts is the life of another. The brotherhood isn't in it for the money, they are in it for the religion and the desire to kill and just need to be told who to kill.
