mini-map program?

is there a mod or any other kind of program that will give you a mini-map to put in a corner? it's driving me nuts not having one. :starwars:

thanks for the link! that's just what i'm looking for

2. Installing and Requirements
==============================

---OMOD---
----------
* Create an OMOD from the archive and activate it. This mod requires:
- OBSE v0018 beta4 or higher. You can find the latest version at http://obse.silverlock.org/.
- Oblivion v1.2.0.416.
- If you are updating from below v0.6.2 you MUST make a clean save before using this mod.

i'm not having much luck installing it so far. i try to unzip it to my oblivion directory where they say to install it. but it keeps telling me:

cannot create folder c\program files (x86)\bethesda softworks\oblivion\minimap_ vox7x2-26220"
"the system cannot find the file specified" and stops at the first file. " :banghead:

oh yea. after i installed the obse files i now have the internet asking me if i want to activate the "whitesmoke smartbar" every time i hit the web. OH JOY!

Well, for one you aren't following the directions properly.

I would highly advise installing Oblivion Mod Manager and using it to install the mod, you will need to convert the archive into an OMOD (the directions for which will be in the OBMM documentation)

Also, for the record, you really shouldn't have your Oblivion install in the Program Files x86 Directory, just in general.

N13 is right about not installing Oblivion in \Program Files, assuming you run either Windows 7 or Vista. A way around that is to disable UAC, which is not the best solution, especially with Win7. Double especially when you have malware threatening to hose your installation.

Whitesmoke Smartbar has me worried. You wanna get rid of that for sure! Not sure how it piggybacked on OBSE...if it did. Google for the best way to rid yourself of it.

Aye, if you aren't already using OBMM or better yet Wrye Bash, consider doing so. There's a bit of a learning curve involved (more so with Wrye) but once mastered they make mod installation and management ever so much easier.

I am going to DL this and try it out, although for the record I do rather enjoy the RP idea of having to get a map out and check it, that said I do like the Morrowind mini-map.

Oh yeah, and deffo to OBMM - I don't know where I would be without it. (Even if it does hate me because I make it work so hard).

1. unzip the OBMM package and click to install, you need to select your Oblivion install directory when asked. When it is installed, if it hasn't already done so - (I can't recall) - open your Oblivion directory and make a shortcut for OBMM.exe and stick it on your desktop.
2. It's advised to not put Oblivion in your default folder primarily because of UAP on Vista/win7 - if you have UAP turned off, it shouldn't matter anyway. If you do put it somewhere different, just create a directory in C:\ and put it there.
3. Your save games are in your personal documents directory under "my games". If you reinstal it, you should not need to transfer your characters anywhere. Just make a backup of anything you need first, just in case.

Love this mod! I just downloaded it and find myself keeping the action going more since I am not pausing to check the map every five minutes....

*sigh*

Short of reinstalling Oblivion or disabling UAC, simply follow these directions:
  • Right-click on the Oblivion folder
  • Click Properties
  • Click the Security tab
  • Click the "Edit..." button next to "To change permissions, click Edit."
  • Select your user name for the "Group or user names:" listbox
  • Check the "Full control" checkbox under Allow in the "Permissions for " listbox
  • Click Apply
  • Click Apply
You'll now be able to save, edit, access, and extract files to that directory and all subdirectories. I also recommend using BAIN in Wrye Bash over OBMM, but OBMM is more (forgive the term) "noob-friendly."
