Anyone willing to recolor some weapons and armor?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 4:19 am

I've previously asked on this forum if anyone is interested in creating a new set of weapons/armor from scratch for use in a future version of WEPON.
I know (from others, since I've never tried it myself!) that creating new weapon/armor meshes AND textures is a very time-consuming process, and as such there's not much interest in doing so.

So I thought I'd ask for something that (I think) wouldn't be quite as difficult: Would anyone be willing to recolor, but not otherwise alter, existing vanilla Oblivion weapons and armor?
If there is someone who might be willing to do this, please post here and I'll give more details on the idea. (If you've read some of my other threads you may already know what I have in mind.)
You of course would be credited in the future version.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry for getting the other thread off topic ! -- did you have any ideas on what it is you are looking for in the recolors and do you need all 3 sets or one specific set ? I can probably make some time to work on something but not sure I would have time to do several sets. (as getting all of the armor pieces to match each other can take a bit of time. Either post a few more details of what it is you are looking for or send me a PM with details and I'll see what I can come up with (perhaps someone else will be willing to take on some other parts if you need all 3 sets done)

Not a problem on the other thread going off topic - I wasn't helping :) And, thanks for your interest in assisting!

The reason I'm so picky on which sets are used is that I'd like to make the new equipment set lore-friendly. The idea behind this is that Jyggalag is "ordering" equipment that is imbued with Madness - that is, he's ordering Amber or Madness gear. (That's where the name "Chaos" comes from - it's controlled insanity.) The fact that both he and Sheogorath are Daedric princes also means the equipment should reflect Daedric elements.

To go with that idea, I'd need the following:
(1) Chaos light armor set. Amber recolored to Daedric's color scheme, or recolored to a mix of Daedric and Madness. Alternatively, Daedric with an Amber color scheme.
(2) Chaos heavy armor set. Madness recolored to Daedric's color scheme, or recolored to a mix of Daedric and Amber. Alternatively, Daedric with a Madness color scheme.
(3) Chaos weapons. There's more flexibility here. Any combination of Daedric, Amber, and Madness probably would work. For example, I think that Daedric weapons colored to look like Madness, with Amber highlights, would look pretty cool.

I'm open to suggestions though. What do you think?

Should be able to put together at least #1 --- Had a bit of time so did the Female version of the armor and the mace and shield today. Does this look about like what you were wanting ?

Whoa, that was FAST! And yep, that's exactly what I'm looking for - that looks fantastic!
I'd be curious what other people think. (After all, this needs to be a set that people WANT their characters to wear.)
I like your addition of the Mace BTW.

Glad you like it -- Figured I had the statue pose with the mace in hand so wanted to get the entire model done to be able to see what it looked like together and it looked a bit off just leaving the original Amber Mace in hand  .

I'll probably work on the Male version today (the Gauntlets, shield, helmet are used by both so just need the boots, cuirass, greaves - so shouldn't take much time. Then the weapons. But also need to test it in game to make sure it looks alright or see if it needs new glow maps and Normal maps made for each piece as well since things usually look quite different in Nifskope than in game with this engine !

That's fantastic! I can't wait to see these in action. Honestly I hadn't thought about the possible need for new normal/glow maps.

Regarding the weapons - I'd love to have three different weapon sets work (a set that matches the new light armor, one that matches the new heavy armor, and one that blends elements of Daedric, Amber, and Madness). But if I could choose just one set, I'd go with that last one, simply because I think it best fits the idea, and such a set should go well with either of the new armors.
(I'm thinking something along the lines of Daedric meshes, Madness coloration with some Daedric mixed in, and thin Amber edges/reliefs would look good. Or maybe Madness meshes, Daedric coloration, and Amber edges. Or, any combo that you think would look good.)

Next, I have a couple of detail questions on the weapons:
(1) Do you have any idea how to create weapon sheathes? I've been told that's extremely difficult to do, and we weren't able to pull it off for our new Amber and Madness weapons. How about arrow quivers?
(2) Another player told me that there's a problem with the Madness Warhammer - either the normal map or glow map is off according to them. But I don't see it. Would you be willing to check it out?

Finally: Do you have any interest in recoloring a heavy armor set for WEPON as well? If not, then I'll happily take the work you've done, and keep recruiting

Got the Male version done (well haven't tested in game yet so not sure it's done ! but looks good in Nifsope - will have to place in game to see whether new Glow and Normal maps are needed ) -- http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc189/JDFanning_bucket/DaedricAmber2-1.jpg.

What kind of Timeline are you thinking for getting this done ? -- If you have someone else that can get to it faster then let them but if not I can see what I can fit in (this set did not take too long because I had a few ideas on what to do with it and I had already started a retex for the amber in the past (made a white version for personal use so had some of the template layers created already ) - I can usually find some time to work on things but never really know for sure how much time is available so don't really want to commit to getting things done in any specific time frame without being sure I can get it done.

Honestly I don't have a firm timeline yet, at least in part because I haven't finished the weapon/armor upgrade script and quest to go along with the new equipment. That said, I'd love to get this new version out by February 15. Is that feasible in your view?
(Given the quality work you did with the first set, I'd prefer to have you do both sets. That would also ensure the two designs are more "similar" to one another.)

That sort of Timeline should be fine for getting the second set done as well -- Wasn't sure if you were trying to get it right away or not .

IT actually looks pretty good in game using the original Normals and glow maps - and settings from the amber armors -- http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc189/JDFanning_bucket/DaedricAmberinGame.jpg

I'll work on some of the other weapons later.

Also sent you a Link by PM to download the test .esp - I added a set of the armor to a cabinet in the testing hall (coc testinghall - to teleport there) so you can see for yourself what they look like in game. Let me know what you think.

It looks pretty good, but I don't really use vanilla armors so...

This Forum is kind of dead lately so not many people responding to anything lately (guess they are all still playing Skyrim - I've hung it up till they release the CK and next patch) - should be a few more lookers this weekend so maybe some more responses will be left then.
