TES4Gecko's "move worldspaces" and existing mods

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 5:58 am

First of all, I'm sorry if this should be posted in the official TES4Gecko thread. I couldn't find it (if it even exists), so I decided to make my own thread.

Anyway, in my most recent installation of Oblivion mods, I came across a problem. I installed two mods that both require their .esm files to be right after oblivion.esm in my load order. I don't like the idea of having to change my load order each time I want to play one of these two mods, so I was wondering if TES4Gecko could be used to fix this problem. According to BOSS, it is capable of fixing this missing LOD problem. However, I'm not sure if the "move worldspaces" feature can be used on downloaded mods (such as Dibella's Watch and Gates to Aesgaard Ep. 2). So, does anyone know if this is possible?

For some reason GTA2 won't be fixed by the command. I have editing access to the Nexus page, and permission to upload any future fixes, so was planning on correcting the LOD bug somehow, but never find the time.

If anyone is feeling less than infinitely patient and does it themselves, I'd be happy to upload a fixed version.

Ok, it's good to know that GTA2 is unfixable with TES4Gecko. However, I'm still not sure about Dibella's Watch. Based on the readme, I'd assume that the author either has tried fixing it or doesn't want/know how to fix it. I don't exactly have less than infinity time on my hands to fix GTA2, so I guess I'll just have to tolerate changing my load order mid-game .

Unfortunately I also ran into the same unfixable issue with Dibella's Watch. The Gecko function is solid, but the game appears to be incredibly picky about how early it's done to a mod.

I posted this over at Nexus on the Dibella's Watch page:
If you cannot give up slot 01 because another mod in your order is occupying it, there is a way out, but you need to be somewhat versed in using Wrye Bash to get around it.

1. Rename DibellasWatch.esm as DibellasWatch.esp.
2. Right click on the renamed file, select "ESPify self"
3. For the DibellasWatchAdditions.esp file, highlight it in Bash, then go to the right window pane. Select the DibellasWatch.esm file that's listed as a master and "change to" DibellasWatch.esp.

If all that went well, set up the load order for DibellasWatch.esp however you like. I put my copy in the same area BOSS puts other province mods like Elsweyr. You can go to Anvil at that point and visit the continent just fine.

Again, I *DO NOT* recommend you try the above though unless you have some idea of what you're doing. It will resolve the issue of not being able to play the mod because of Oblivion's stupid worldspace bugs.

This method can also work for other mods of the same type that add large new worldspaces, but they can't all be converted this smoothly.

You'll also need to be aware though that you have to do this procedure again if you're updating the mod or you'll lose all your progress in it and be back to having all the landscape missing.

Thanks for the advice, Arthmoor! Now it'll be a lot less annoying to play these two mods.

np, but for those watching, don't try this on GTA2. All it does is cause the game to crash. Then again, I found the thing to be incredibly crashy anyway and couldn't play it so who knows.

Thanks for the tip, Arthmoor. What are the other large mods that we have to watch out for?
