StealthSniper Builds

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 2:15 pm

Alright, so I've finally gotten my Skyrim fix I believe. I think I'll be returning to New Vegas soon, as I feel like I didn't give it a fair enough chance back around release. I need tips, though, so what better place to ask, right?

So back when I was playing, I remember I could barely play New Vegas on Very Easy. I mean I could, but it was difficult. I asked my friend what build he would recommend and he said Stealth/Sniper would be fun and pretty easy. I admit it sounds fun and I'd like to go this direction with my character.

What would be the best possible starting SPECIAL stats for the Class I desire. I'm sorry if this is asked around here a lot, but I really do need help.

Also, where could I acquire a nice sniper rifle earlier on in the game?

Auggghh, switching from nirn back to a wasteland earth to give advice is rough. I still have my head in the skyrim clouds, and its been a while since I played this, but Ill do my best.

I compleatly [censored] this game. I did every thing there is to do many times, I tried muiltiple builds, and beat all outcomes of MQ, and dlc. In all that time, I have to say, I found a build thats better than a sniper build, Ill give you mine, its close to a sniper build, but a little different.

Commando scout ranger( I know, Im good at naming classes are'nt I :whistling: )

S4
P1
E6
C3
I9
A6
L8
Note, this is raw special, no perks, implants, traits ect. ALSO, note I dont remember the exact amount of points you can have at the begining(too much skyrim  ), so I just put them at about what I remember puting mine at, you might have more or less to spend. Also note, you dont have to have INT that high if you dont want to, but I do because of the skill points it grants you, and because of all the INT dialog checks. Plus RPing(my character is reay smart, helps him in the elements).

Main skills to start with: 1: Sneak (a must for this build)
2: Guns, or EW (depending on which you are best with.
3: Survival, or repair( survival is best for my build, I can eat my way to full health, and very useful early in when stims arnt in full suply, but repair helps keep things working, plus you can reload/craft custom ammo with a perk, perfect for a sniper, commando scout ranger).

Here's the best part of this build, you can snipe if you realy want to. In the begining of the game, the fully upgraded varment rifle/ratslayer(in brocflower cave i think), are very good snipers to start with, and take you to the real ones when you are high enough lvl. BUT, I dont snipe. I use the sneak of my character build to my best. I can take out an entire camp of vipers with chances combat knife.silenced 12mm smg, with out any of them ever knowing. I can move in, ambush, and liquify every thing in an area with the special plazma rifle in repcon HQ, or the All American from V34, then slip back into the shadows, and prepare another ambush. If I want, I can sneak up on people, and destroy anything, from close up, or far away with the holorifle from deadmoney. When this thing's fully upgraded, there is no stoping it.

So? You can snipe if you want, it helps in the begining of the game, but, eventualy, you want to turn your self into the ultimate, bad ass, far away, but up-close and personal as well commando. This isnt hard with all the dlc's lvl caps, Ive maxed out all my skills, even the ones I dont realy use. Without, and just plain lvl 30 cap, the build works very well, though you cant delv into other skills as much.

Hope that helps. Im going back to skyrim now, and am going to kill some dragons with my ranger scout thief bosmer :vaultboy: .

S-6
P-5
E-4
C-5
I-7
A-6
L-6

Tag guns, repair, and speach. Energy weapons are useless for a stealth build as none are silenced. You won't need any stims/healing items since if you're sniping your enemy should be dead before he see's ya. Get the combat knife from Pthe Vicki & Vance casino in Primm. Use it to murder NCR troopers in their sleep at Mojave Outpost. Get E-DE in Primm, it's perk is VERY usful for snipers. A fully-modded varmiet rifle makes a good early game weapon, later on (past Nipton) you can get the Ratslayer. Once again, if you're ever low on caps murder NCR/Legion troops while they sleep or sit down. Once you get to the dam you can easily sneak-kill the NCR troops their with sniper rifles. Mod that and you can kill any non-boss character with a sneak-shot. Soon you'll be rolling in caps and can get an AMR by level 16 (when the gunner runners begin selling them). I do this on very hard and still find it too easy :)

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I think I've thought it over a little more and I'd like to have a character capable of sniping. But I'm horrible at this game, so sooner or later I'll need to be able to run n gun. So, I think I'm going to tag Guns, Sneak and Speech. But I'd still like to hear some SPECIAL stats. I've never used implants but I hear it's best to start with a 7 in endurance. Any truth to this? Or should I just shut up and pick one of the builds?

I say get your agility and endurance up, but if your strength Isnt up then you won't get a good shot cause the sniper will be shaking back and fourth

Cheers

If it's one thing I know well in this game, it's stealth sniping. Like others have said, mod up a varmint rifle early, then get Ratslayer when you can. Eventually you'll acquire a Hunting Rifle, then on to a Sniper Rifle and beyond, later. Sneaking is slow and dangerous early on, since they can hear you coming- so you can only really effectively sneak up on them in 'walk' mode. svcks. immediately upon hitting level 12, grab the Silent Running perk- it is the single best stealth perk in the whole game, and makes a stealth/sniper much easier. It allows you to sneak without being heard in run mode. Just because you choose sniping, doesn't mean every shot/kill will be at max range. There will be many situations where you'll end up quite close to your opponent (especially in the many indoors/caves encounters), and then the quiet-but-quick stealth part really comes in handy.

My preferred specials:

S - 5
P - 5
E - 7
C - 1
I - 7
A - 7
L - 8

Snipers like crit, and higher Luck adds that. Also, have to get Perception up to 6 (with implant), for the Better Criticals perk- no point in being a sniper if you don't take that one. Bring strength up to 6 with implant, and you can use most of the weapons you will need. If you want to use heavier stuff, you can take the Weapon Handling perk, which reduces strength requirements on all weapons by -2. Endurance of 7 allows you to get implants for every SPECIAL besides Charisma (waste of points, don't bother), and also the sub-dermal implant for extre damage resistance. Leave Charisma at 1, the only reason to put points into that, is if you intend to let your companions do most of your fighting for you, which simply isn't the way of the self-respecting stealth sniper.

Intel of 6-7 (plus implant) will give you plenty of skill points to work with, and since the DLC level cap is up to 50 now, there is no reason to ever max out INT, anymore. By level 40, you'll have most all of your skills maxed out anyway, even with just a moderate amount of INT. You can also use Intense Training to add a couple of extra points to your SPECIALS at some point, I usually beef up Luck and Agility (I like the reload speed and extra Attack Points, myself). Season to taste.

Traits: Built To Destroy (more crit), Kamikaze (more Attack Points)

Perks for your build: Commando, Sniper, Silent Running, Better Criticals, Hand Loader, Action Boy x2, Finesse.

I build for a two-phase sniping assault- I free-hand aim for the first couple of shots, and if there are any enemies left still closing in, all the extra Attack Points will let you get up to 3 free shots from VATS with your Sniper Rifle... that's a lot of backup stopping power when you need it!

I believe my last character was

SPECIAL:
6
8
6
1
3
8
8

tag:
Guns
Repair
Stealth

I don't care about lockpicking and science for the most part so I don't need many skill points.

Get a silenced weapon and aim for the head. 9mm (can't remember if this is from a mod) or varmint rifle silencer should be available early on.

Heck, once you get enough perks a silenced .22 will deal enormous stealth critical damage.

The silenced sniper rifle is pretty much game over for any enemies. If you have the Gun Runner's arsenal... a silenced AMR can 1 shot just about anything (might need some explosives perks to take advantage of the different ammo available).

If in doubt, lay mines before you start shooting stuff. If they don't clean up low health targets they will at least cripple or knock the enemy down.

I am who I am in real life for every play through, which never gets boring.
Who am I? A ninja sniper, who is also great with melee weapons and SMGs. Of course, this doesn't really fit the mold, but I have always liked shotguns in all of my play throughs. Naturally, in every Fallout game my character fits this mold also.

I also use what I would have for my special stats in real life which are as follows:

6ST, 7PE, 5EN, 5CH, 6IN, 7AG, 5LK

My tag skills are always Small Guns, Repair, and Sneak. If I were to include a fourth tag, it would have to be Melee weapons.
