There goes my so called "hero" character

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 4:23 pm

Lonesome Road was basically Obsidian saying "Yea, know that character of your we said has no 'canon' backstory? We're giving him/her backstory." *Trollface*

I view it as something out of your control really. Uly needed something to blame, and he blamed the package courier that delivered the package that destroyed the Divide. It can be taken in almost any way you want it to.
I was kind of pissed about this at first. But they leave it vague enough for me to let it slide.

Still think the Courier got amnesia(bullets to head), no matter what Chris Avellone says.

I don't think he has amnesia, he just wasn't there when the incident of The Divide occurred, so he had no idea that he was to blame for The Divide of today.

The courier was'nt there when the divide incident occured. They delivered the package and left. That's it.

If they were there, when it happened, they'd be dead or a divide ghoul. Not like they could run for shelter, they did'nt live there, no way to get locked doors on shelters open.

Ullysses only survived because he was in his base.

According to Ulysses, the settlement of The Divide was created by the Courier... it was his home, he was almost solely responsible for its existence, and it was a place he had returned to regularly. They don't say how long ago the nuclear accident occurred, but it had to have been a least a couple of years before the beginning of FO:NV... so it is doubtful that the Courier wouldn't have known about it by that time, even if he had left immediately after delivering the package, and before the nuclear explosions went off. Amnesia from the head wound is therefore the only explanation for him/her not knowing anything about it.

On the top left of the box are three little options. From left to right they are "Toggle editing mode", "Remove Format" and "Special BBCode". Clicking on "Special BBCode" will bring up a new box which among others will have the Spoiler option.

That's not what he meant. What he meant is that The Courier coming through that route made that place 'his' home, IE he built up by basically being the caravan that comes to a remote town 1-2 times a month. Besides, anyone can hear of 'The DIvide' having a disaster happen, but no one is going to automatically blame themself for it. But The Divide was built by other survivalists, following the roads that The Courier's feet made. The Courier didnt literally BUILD The Divide.

Thanks. Very well hidden- my kudos to their excellent feature-hiding team.

Ok. I can live with that first part. Still, it was a regular route for him as part of his courier job, and it still would not make sense that he never travelled that way again, or even heard of it getting blown up, in the following years. When I played through LR, there was no indication he had any clue about any disaster there, before you take him back there- or that he even knew the Divide existed, for that matter. Seems a mighty stretch, without amnesia thrown in to explain it.

The impression I got was that the Courier knew about the Divide's existence, he just didn't know what exactly happened there (no living person save for Ulysses really did), or what was there following the disaster.

I highly doubt the average mailman remembers every package they ever delivered in their lifetime. To the Courier the Divide was just another delivery that he forgot about as time went on.
