Fallout NV PC or PS3

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 5:43 pm

Hi,

I currently have Fallout 3 for PS3 and PC which I have really enjoyed playing. While hopefully they will sort out Skyrim I am thinking about getting Fallout NV but wondered should I get it for the PC or PS3? As I have heard there are severe Lag problems with the PS3 Version?

In general, PC is > console. I am talking about bugginess, but I am also talking about modding, support, & customization. The PS3 in particular has a serious problem with FO3, FONV, & Skyrim which is too technical for me to understand but results in massive lag.

Sounds like PC version for me then, I have played Fo3 for about 80 hours on the PS3 with no problems and picked up the Game Of the Year Edition for the PC so have yet to rediscover the joys of PC FO3. Unfortunately I don't think my PC will run Skyrim properly so had to go for PS3.

I dont know. I play the PS3 version just fine, last time I had any real lag problems was after I'd been playing 8 hours straight.

If you have a choice then I'd have to agree with Nuke and say PC. The mods and support are huge benefits, but you also get use of console commands which have helped me get by many random bugs that I used to get before the patches.

This, although i have Fallout NV on Ps3 and it has smoothy most of time (lags at hoover dam battle) and a few mirror bugs, (much less than my buddy on Xbox)I would recommend gettng it on PC simply for mods and support are huge benefits.

I recently brought a laptop and prodivded it can run it, i will buying the next fallout game on it. :fallout:

i have FNV both for pc and ps3. ps3 version is solid. you will still get the occasional freeze. with large save files and/or long play sessions, you will run into instances of massive framerate crash forcing you to quit to xmb and restart the game. only dlc i had some minor framerate issues with was old world blues. all other dlc's have worked great for me. overall, i wouldn't discourage anyone from getting the ps3 version, but if given the choice, pc is the way to go.

i also have skyrim for ps3, and i haven't encountered any of the issues some are complaining about. i say 'some' because there really is no solid data on what percentage of ps3 players are having issues. and i've logged enough hours in skyrim to have something go wrong.

so if i'm not having problems with ps3, why do i suggest pc? mods plain and simple. i would suggest not using mods your first or even second time through though. also, i wouldn't bother with pc if your pc can't run FNV on settings higher than medium. medium graphics settings are woefully inferior to ps3.

Thanks for all the advice, seeing that both versions I have seen are cheap I think the best thing to do is get them both . I have my ps3 hooked up to a big tv and it's nice to sit on the sofa plus of course I can then discover the joys of mods on the PC version once I have played them through. Looks like I am going to be in for some fun times with this one as I thought FO3 was excellent.

Interested to hear that you have not had any issues with Skyrim Steal your Face, I stopped playing it quite early in the game after reading all the issues that other people have been having.

As a PS3 owner, I can proudly say that PC is the platform of choice for Fallout and RPGs in general.

i might be in the minority though (like i said, there's no stats on how many are having problems, so impossible to tell). a friend was playing skyrim and was having all the issues getting publicity: framerate crashes, freezing, ps3 having to rebuild database after freezes, bugs, broken quests, etc. it seems some systems don't like skyrim at all. if i turn out to be one of the lucky ones, it's about time! lol. i have an 8 month old 120gb slim.

put about 300-400 hours into skyrim, so if i was going to have these problems, i would have by now. picked up FNV on the steam sale ($17 for FNV and all dlc's....amazing deal) so putting skyrim on the shelf to give another go with FNV. on character #20 (or thereabouts). there's just something about FNV where i keep coming back for more.
