House Mods

Post » Fri Dec 04, 2009 2:33 pm

Hey there,

I LOVE Oblivion, but i think the mods are essential if you want to live it to the max. I have the Knights of the Nine disc, so i have all the plug-in houses except the Fighters Stronghold. Through all the mods, i cant find one to use as a warriors house! HELP!

I need:

Big
Luxurious
Servants
--TRAINING ROOM-- essentail

AND NOT:
ANY MAGIC STUFF AT ALL!!
A QUEST TO GET THE HOUSE/MANSION!!

There are loads of houses to fit that bill, now depends what kind of warrior and some more specifics, are you a noble knight, or a dark bandit? When you mean big, do you mean castle big (think the whole of skingrad) or do you mean city/town big with you as mayor/leader? ORE has some great houses, is the site back to those who know?

EDIT:

I just checked and it's back yay :celebrate: http://oblivionsrealestate.com/Find_A_Home/find_a_home.html have fun :)

EDIT: EDIT:

I just remembered this one mod which i loved, it was my first ORE mod and i use it until today, try it, it's called http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3823

Gotta have COBL compatibility. Other then that, I like a quest. Doesn't have to be a big fat quest, but maybe one that's thin and energetic.

Try adding an "Others" option or atleast expanding the options. None of the current ones even get close to what matters for me.

For me what really matters is the general theme of the house. I really like simple and small homes that blend into the vanilla game. I do not like anything that feels too modern for example.

You can try the West Watch Tower, it's not really huge but it is very nice.

I voted "other". The most important thing to me is that I feel a sense of coziness, of hominess, of inviting warmth. Therefore, I tend to gravitate towards smaller houses. I'm allergic to these humongous Bel-Air-style McMansions with throne rooms and mannequin rooms, hot tubs, dancing girls, long isles of display cases and high walls of identical storage containers. Give me an ivy-covered cottage by Korana or Khettiana any day.

There are several things that factor into a home for me. One is immersion. I want my home to feel like a home, not a museum. I have to agree with Pseron that I usually tend to go for the small and cozy cottages.

The second important thing I look for when choosing a house mod is location. Location makes all the difference for me because I tend not to fast travel. Is the home hard to get to? Is it surrounded by enjoyable scenery? I like my houses to be off of the beaten path, but not too isolated unless it's for good reason.

My final requirement is creativity. I usually go for homes that are unique on some level, whether it just be a simple retexturing of some furniture or an interesting arrangement of pre-existing meshes. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16308 mod is my favorite for creativity. I never get bored in this house, and Willie did a good job of making all of its features fit in smoothly instead of seeming to just be thrown in for the hell of it.

You forgot the pet rats, piles of garbage under the window, and the club in the closet for said pet rats.

I rarely use any house that doesn't doesn't work with COBL. I like some good lighting too, I hate when a house is too dark or too light.

Agreed, lighting is very important for setting the atmosphere! I like when houses have light switches so I can adjust how bright/dark it is. :D

Amen!

I also love smaller houses that are long on charm and character, short on pompous bloat masquerading as "amenities". Khettienna, Garnet, Yevic, WhoGuru, and StapleNinja are among my favorite interior designers for Oblivion. I must also mention Radicus's "Dimensional Grotto"- one of the prettiest and least pretentious house mods I've had the pleasure of using.

Addenda: I voted "other". :D And COBL support is nice, but not necessary (at least for me), as it's easy enough to add myself.

If I can't watch the http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n99/Shezrie/ScreenShot128.jpg, it is not the house for me. :) That is one of my favorite houses, but it is not released.

I love cosy cottages with great views. A house must make use of it's surroundings to add to it useability and beauty. Something too large doesn't feel cosy and I get lost in it (not in a good way either). That said, Yevic's Blackmarsh Manor is one of my favorites due to it's old world charm and atmosphere.

I always find it important that a house has a special feature, something that other houses don't have. I love it when there's things that you really wouldn't expect, or some references to movies or other kinds of easter eggs.

For a house to be downloadable for me, it has to have a certain aesthetic quality to it, I mean your bog standard gable roofed house is fine and all BUT I want something with a bit more character. A quest is also another feature I look for, or a realistic price tag. Physical space isn't quite as important, though I don't want it to feel small, then again I don't want it to feel too large either. While I'm on about space, I would like a decent amount of display cases to decorate my house with all those unique and interesting items that I've gathered along in my journey, be it weapons stones or just general collectables.

As others have mentioned COBL support is a nice bonus, though I don't think of that when getting a house mod. Oh yes, it also has to be easy to reach or have a nice view that makes it worth marching across the wilderness just to get to my comfortable castle (be it a literal one or not).
