New Vegas, New Player

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 1:29 pm

Hi guys i;m big morrowind, oblivion, fo3 and skyrim fan and am now looking to change things up abit and buy new vegas.

I just saw some youtube reviews and people are calling this game like an "expansion on fo3" which i find hard to believe.

A few questions:

Can i play casino games in New Vegas?

Is it a defined Black and white game or are choices hard to make?

Is it a game better for PC or Xbox360?

Are there many mods?

Thanks guys

You can play Blackjack, Slots, Roulette and a game outside of the casinos called Caravan.

It is not black and white in any sense, it is far truer to Fallout then Fallout 3 was. Every single quest has multiple ways of completion, many can be finished without violence.

To answer both of your last questions it is much better for the PC because of the much more accurate mouse, the use of console commands when necessary and the huge amount of amazing http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/top/alltime.php?advlt=2.

Of the games you've mentioned playing, I have only played Oblivion and Fallout 3. New Vegas is different from them in a few respects: it has very well written dialogue, it has a very interesting story with many, many choices along the way and it has very interesting characters. I loved Fallout 3 and i enjoyed my time with Oblivion, but New Vegas is definitely not just an expansion. YouTube, also known as the troll hive, isn't the best place to trust reviews.

Have fun and I hope you enjoy your time in the Mojave.

Blackjack, Roulette, Slots

It is 'shades of grey', and stays true to the Fallout 1/2 lore. Other than the Followers of the Apocalypse, even the best and brightest have their nasty moments, so it can be difficult to make a choice sometimes.

Is it a game better for PC or Xbox360?

I'd say PC, if you've got a decent one.

Are there many mods?

Oh, there are MANY mods, and some really, really good ones at that. I highly recommend studying a mod before using it, though. For example, there are many people who praise 'A World of Pain', but after investigation, I decided that it was absolutely not a mod I wanted to use. Never just take unqualified praises of mods as gospel. :vaultboy:

Blackjack, Roulette, Slot Machines and even a little card game they came up with.

Black and white? Absolutely not. I know FO3 was advertised as being "shades of grey" and some people consider the war in Skyrim to be morally grey. New Vegas makes those look like absolute child's play; New Vegas will throw tough decisions at you, with communities flourishing if you allow Person A to kill off the very kind-hearted leader Person B, who while he himself is a good leader, he doesn't have the smarts to achieve what Person A could, BUT respects people's personal freedoms and rights more than Person A ever will. Or you're given the choice of saving a small community of people from a poison, but if you do, the poison will be rerouted and reach the crops of another community, not DOOMING that community completely but ruining their farms in the area and giving them food issues. Things like that.
All sorts of philosophical discussions can develop from the events of New Vegas. "Do the ends justify the means?" "Is it ok to kill one life to save ten?" etc etc.

PC version has the least amount of bugs, you can manually fix the remaining bugs with console commands (very simple to use, the vault wiki site usually lists the exact console commands needed to fix the more common bugs) and it's generally more stable.

Plenty of mods too.

On the note of black and white morality: Side with Legion on your first playthrough and keep an open mind about their culture and goals.

A few questions:

Can i play casino games in New Vegas? Yes: Blackjack, Slots and Roulette

Is it a defined Black and white game or are choices hard to make? Not B&W, you have the choice of which faction you choose, 4 in total.

Is it a game better for PC or Xbox360? I've had no major problems on Xbox but PC has mods to enchance gameplay.

Are there many mods? 1000's by now, someone already linked ^

Thanks guys
