DART GUN?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 1:40 pm

Okay, so Boone, Rex, and I got mauled by ONE Deathclaw a few levels ago. It literally took all of 3 seconds. I'm at level 17 now (2nd playthrough), and have acquired some fairly powerful guns like vance's 9mm sub, 10mm sub, the alien blaster, and this machine.

I did my first playthrough of NV BEFORE i bought and played FO3, btw. So, i didn't know of the dart gun until after my first NV playthrough and subsequent FO3 playthrough.

still waiting to acquire an anti-materal rifle, the gun runners haven't had any for me yet and neither has any caesar legion corpses.

ANYWAY, regardless of those weapons, i miss the effectiveness of the dart gun on FO3. The way it paralyzes those deathclaws and yao guai making it much easier to get critical hits in is just...amazing.

Now, i've been able to find all of the parts for the dart gun in NV, but...not a schematic.

Someone PLEASE tell me that there is still a dart gun or something similar in NV?

I'm expecting the worst, but decided to ask anyway.

No Dart Gun, no Railway Rifle, no Rock-it-Launcher.

Best ways to handle a deathclaw with guns, without an AMR, in my opinion...all involve AP ammo.

2 rounds to the head with a silenced sniper rifle from long range.
3 rounds to the head from This Machine.
A minigun, and some praying.
3 rounds to the head with a Hunting Shotgun and slugs (with Shotgun Surgeon). Also applies to Riot Shotgun.

I never bother going for the legs on those things because it simply takes too long. I take their faces off.

So effective it took even the slightest fraction of challenge away.

C'mon, don't tell us you are running around with 2 companions, at Lvl17, with weapons such as the AB and This Machine, to get owned by a single Deathclaw?
I have a seriously hard time in believing that. You should have named the thread "I miss the Dart Gun", and be honest, rather than taking the route you did.
The AB should easily take that thing out in 1-3 headshots, This Machine with JSP or AP rounds will not take much more.
And if you're really interested in crippling these things, any type of Grenade Rifle/Launcher is your friend. Works also wonders on packs of them.

Nail Gun is extremely effective with Hobbler against DC legs. Scary effective, actually. Just not as effective as Dart Gun and can't kill them.

well i haven't had a chance to test out any of my newly acquired guns on one yet, but i was a bit wary judging from our last experience.

you're right, maybe i just miss the dart gun...it was just so damn effective! lol.

but, at lvl 18 now...and with two companions (just swapped out rex for ed-e)...i shouldn't be needing a dart gun.

i guess i'm just scarred from my previous attacks on both playthroughs of NV. it may be sad to some of you, but i still avoid deathclaw infested areas even w/my companions and guns.

btw, i have slugs and AP ammo...but i can't figure out how to use it. Is it just lumped in with the regular ammo count? or do i need a certain perk in order to utilize them. i've only recently began buying AP ammo, never bothered on FO3 or NV PT1.

For instance, whenever it says .357 round _/576...are my AP rounds included in that? i mean, if it's all lumped together, how will i be able to tell when i'm using AP or not?

sorry for such a newb question...

The Deathclaws weren't that bad in FO3 anyways. They took like 1/4th of your health and you had insta-heal stimpacks out the wazoo. Seeing a deathclaw in FO3 felt more like "ah, time to spend 2 stimpacks" instead of "FUUUUUUUUU-."

Yeah I'm glad the dart gun is gone as I remember my brother making a guy just to use the dart gun, named him darting dave, and basically just darted the crap out of things.

Btw, before you question the name, every guy me and him make are extremely stupid.

On New Vegas some I have are Dexter Deathbrawl, hardcoe Harrison, and my favorite NCR account Mister Mojave

There's a change ammo hotkey. On computer it's ''2'' on consoles it's... up on the d-pad or something?

You can also change ammo type when you have a gun equipped by going to the ammo part of your inventory, I think; I've never actually done it that way. I always just press 2.

So, no, it's not just lumped in with the general ammo count.

I do wish the dart gun and some of the other FO3 craftable weapons were in NV but more balenced like for example if it was in NV the dart gun would act as a stealth weapon and could load a standard dart(or perhaps needle) which is pretty weak but get 20 of them and use the crafting bench to poisen them with what ever posiens the player has.
The dart gun then doesnt have its leg cripple abilty and the player needs a constant supply of poisen of there choice for the gun to be effective.

As am I, but the Compliance Regulator seems to have replaced the Dart Gun as the seemingly underpowered but actually overpowered weapon for New Vegas.

I killed Rawr without taking a single point of damage using a very simple strategy: 1.) shoot Rawr with compliance regulator until he is paralyzed, 2.) run up to Rawr and equip Industrial Hand 3.) apply the Industrial Hand to Rawr's head 4.) repeat until he dies

Completely overpowered imo, although it is a miracle for DiD playthroughs.

You can get the dart gun schematic in a mod, I'm not sure whether I got it from Nevada Project, or WMX- probably NP. The mod has some components that add old weapons and stuff back into the game. At any rate, I made one, just because I could- but never really used it. There are so many great weapons and explosives in the game, I never felt the need to stoop to using it. Same with the compliance regulator. Crippling something is all well and good, but frankly, I'd rather just blow it's brains across the gulch.

My simple strategy for Rawr:
1.) Shoot Rawr with CZ57 Avenger
2.) He's dead before I reload

Yeah, i don't think i can use mods as i play on console, ps3. But yeah, i'll just have to deal lol. There are much better and many more weapons in NV than there was in FO3.

I just haven't had the chance to come up against a deathclaw again since i've acquired my new weapons.

The person above was right, i guess this is just an "I miss the dart gun" thread, lol.
