all these dlcs are a massive immersion killer

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 2:20 pm

I've never played new vegas before, and I just brought it, along with all the dlcs. Must say I am a bit put off by the way I have been given craploads of free stuff right at the start, as well as a load of quests being initiated - I just spent my first couple of minutes in new vegas clicking through endless menus telling me I've recieved free stuff for no apparent reason. Is there no mod to deal with this in any way? Perhaps make each dlc triggerable in-game, as opposed to being forced down your throat straight away?

You got free stuff? You downloaded the DLC (Courier's Stash) that gives you all the "packs" that came with different platforms of New Vegas or from different stores.

The DLC themselves take yourstuff. Well some do. Dead Money you can't take yourstuff with you. Honest Hearts has a weight limit. At the end though you do get alot of stuff.

The reason for that is because we live in the age of cry babies. "I didn't find that unique item " So the devs just said "fine have everything even though you did nothing to earn it."

Just uninstall Courier's Stash and you won't start off with all of that stuff.

I would'a preferred it if the Couriers stash had been hidden all over the mojave, like a treasue hunt. But no, free [censored], WOOO.

Yes, the COurier totally trekked the wasteland in absolutely nothing. He risked facing deathclaws, raiders and the like and had nothing. REALISM!

It would have made more sense to release them in the separate packs. I just have the Classic pack because I pre-ordered it from EB Games. It makes more sense to get 1 piece of clothing, 1 weapon, some ammo and a few miscellaneous items then everything the Courier's Stash gives you.

I just like playing in a challenging, role-playing kinda style. To be given loads of loot at the beginning just seems like a bit of a cheat? As someone else said it could have been presented in a fun, meaningful way, not , here - have loads of free stuff for no reason!
Is this gear overpowered then? Will it not make recieving good gear pointless if I already have all this good gear? May just uninstall it tbh.

No the gear isn't over powered. Vault 13 canteen does lessen dehydration in hardcoe mode. Doesn't remove it but you get dehydrated less often. So just ditch it if you don't want that.

I do agree with you, that it was somewhat annoying to start the game and have to sit through a bunch of "you now have this" pop-ups. Then again I did buy the DLC so really I can't complain. If you don't want to sit through that, uninstall the DLC.

Maybe there is such a mod to remove those pop-ups.

Even better. There is a http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39776 that integrates all that crap into the Wasteland. So you can get attacked by a fiend sporting a Sturdy Caravan shotty.

The mod the OP is looking for is called DLC Delay or something, and can be found on the nexus.
In my game, pretty much the only things you start with are some dynamite sticks and a vault 21 jumpsuit. That's how it should be.

The OP has the right to share subtle frustrations like this as that's what we do all day on these forums or pre-release anyways. They have a right to immersion.

I assume you bought the GOTY edition thus it packed in all the content people spent around 40-50 bucks extra on. The pop-ups are how things are presented to the player as BGS set up in FO 3 and Obsidian also kept for New Vegas. Could possibly be a mod for making them not appear but then you might miss out on notifications the pop-ups bring. Whereas your not really missing any needed info from the HUD being disabled. But could be.

And altogether yes all the items together are overkill but as all DLCs once installed load at once that's how it is. Delete the ones you don't want, install them later if you wish. Or Put them somewhere in the game world and forget about them or delete them. Work for you?

Edit: The items themselves are fairly weak. Just starter gear. The stimpacks are a bonus. If you metagame technically you can get great gear in just a few minutes, just as if you played through any game and knew where all the awesome stuff was.

He also gets a lot of free money by selling the starter gear he doesn't want/need.
