How would I play NV in order...? (maybe spoilers)

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 1:43 am

I may of posted a spoiler or 2 in my question, just read carefully!

After being very busy with class and moving to a new place, I finally have enough time to kick back and enjoy some New Vegas. I played alot during my first playthrough (No DLC, and the last quest I remember was getting the plane from the lake) but that was a while back.

Now that I have all the DLC in addition to the game itself I'm ready to play it agian, but I'd like to play the game along with the DLC in "order". I guess what I'm asking is this; From the very start of the game, in what order would I complete the DLC along with the main quest chain of the game? (story wise I guess....)

Some things I'll do on this playthrough: I always play as the good guy, So I'll side with the boomers, make the Brotherhood and NCR friends, etc. I'll be with the NCR, and I'll have Boone and ED-E as my main companions.

Thanks in advance, I was trying to figure out what order I could come up with, but with this being my first time posting on these fourms, I figured I'd get some help from the fallout faithful!

I like to save the last 3rd of quests for after the DLC, so maybe before you're asked to protect Kimball.

Yeah, I remember that quest chain, I figured thats kinda like my end game. But I guess I'm kinda looking for a more detailed response in what order would be a good one to run all the dlc and main quest through.

Thank you for your reponse though! ;)

i would follow the ncr main quest line until you get the 'beware the wrath of cesaer' quest. it's not really a quest per se, but it's a good stopping point to sidetrack to the dlc (as well as finish any exploration and side quests you would like to do). i would play the dlc in order of release: dead money, honest hearts, old world blues, and then lonesome road.

it is not required to play the dlc in 'order', but references and characters in the dlc make a whole lot more sense when the dlc is played in order (especially if it is your first time through the dlc). if you didn't know, the dlc is a story within itself. they are not isolated storylines, but all intersect and reference each other. it is a story in four parts.

welcome to the forums, welcome to new vegas, if you enjoy this game half as much as i do, you will have an absolute blast.

I agree with the posts above. If I side with the NCR, I do all the DLC's at the beginning of 'You'll Know It When It Happens", if siding with yourself, after I complete "Wild Card: Side Bets" but before talking to Yes Man.

Honest Hearts stands alone without much interaction with the Courier/Ulysses backstory. I usually do it first and then the rest 'in order': Dead Money, Old World Blues and Lonesome Road.

Happy Playthrough!

RIght on fellas, thanks a bunch. I'll end up playing through the NCR side up until the "Beware the wrath of Ceasaer / you'll know when it happens (which ever of the 2 occur first) and then stop there and do the DLC. As I said before I did play a bit on my old playthrough ( I think I found almost every NCR part, did the quest to see who was going into that comms tower at night, saved the tram etc. I think I even stopped at the Hoover Dam)

I got 1 more question then. I'd like to go and beat Casear's Face in, but in the end I'd use the speech way and convince Lanius (I think that was his name) and tell him to go home. When would be a good time to head up and take on Caesar? ( I dont mean level wise, I mean "game-play loreish wise) isn't he at that big legion camp right by the Dam?

I suggest with all of the above, although I'm currently doing Legion playthrough, I decided to complete DLC's as soon as the quest Don't tread on the bear was started. (this is the quest, where you get a warning from the NCR that doing further jobs of Caesar won't be tolerated by them) In case you forgot.

I recommend doing HH first and then either DM, OWB and LR. Or OWB, DM and LR. In both cases, leave LR for the last, the other two aren't that important for me, I found both playthroughs interesting. HH isn't that important either but for me it felt better to complete it as a first one.

I got 1 more question then. I'd like to go and beat Casear's Face in, but in the end I'd use the speech way and convince Lanius (I think that was his name) and tell him to go home. Spoiler
Yes, he is at the big camp - The Fort. Be aware that once you kill Caesar, several Legion assassins will track you in the Mojave and try to kill you. If I were you, I'd do it when I'm still on good or at least neutral terms with the Legion, therefore before the quest Beware the wrath of Caesar fails. That's how I did it - I was attacked many times by Legion assassins later on and at higher levels they can be quite challenging. You can also do it later, but all Legion members will be hostile, so you'll first have to make your way to Caesar by fighting all the Legionnaires that'll attack you.

You can kill Caesar att any point after you retrive the platinum chip.
But why kill him? Join him!

Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, Lonesome Road, Dead Money.

I say that from a challenge and story standpoint. I think this list goes from least challenging to most challenging, as well as I always do it this way because:

I think Honest Hearts isn't a very good DLC so I like to get it out of the way first.

OWB connects to Lonesome Road very closely, so I normally do it before LR.

Dead Money is my favorite, so I save the best for last, as well as I think it has a more dramatic and awesome ending than even Lonesome Road. (I'm not gonna post any DLC spoilers.)
