Yet another start up crash

MMmm you may try to look at this :
go into your steam folder, under wherever you installed it, then find GameValidation.log, then open it.
If it says:
Starting validation of BRINK
Validation failure: d:\steam\steamapps\common\brink\installscript.vdf
Validation complete: 197 Total Files, 1 Failed Validation

then we are in the same case.

have a look here, and sen the dev your dxDiag:

I have been playing online games since 1996 and have NEVER had to do the stuff i have had to do to get this game running.

Well so have i and i find that many many many games have issues with cards processors systems drivers etc. I have encountered them all and usually its not just me but a huge percentage of gamers and then a game comes out and we get loads of people saying this game svcks cause it has bugs and most of us just roll our eyes and remember the times where bigger companies have brought out longer waiting games and have been bug ridden with slower patches.

Still it will become a fantastic game in my opinion with the free DLC and the patches to come. its your opinion whether or not you like it but i feel you must play it before you realise how good it can be.

I also find that those who aren't as nimble or visually adjusted to free running seem to complain because they expect this to be a normal fps shooter.

At least you are enthusiastic about the game. You've got that going for you, that's for sure.

P.S.: "Free Running"? This game is meant to be a TEAM FPS, not a "free running" rambo-esc type FPS like COD, Black OPS or MW2. It's supposed to be more of a Battlefield/UT type game.

Pity...I see a lot of COD/MW players playing it that have no team concept. And that aside from my previous post of the lack luster graphics involved.

Sorry for my off topic post.

Free-running is parkour you know the style of movement. Im not talking about running off without a team.
Most dont know how to make fireteams so they dont bother but if the lobbies get implemented it will be a grand team builder.
There are alot of COD dikes on but thats bound to happen and theyll get sad eventually and leave.
But the graphics to me loks high res different adn realistic apart from some forms of bodies and face.
If you are a fan of realism you came to the wrong party but if you want fantasy that is close to realism with a explainable story and unique action and the risk of wankers (which every online game has) then you are home sweet home.

Day 18, and still can't play the game.

It's only me, or more people think that the games are being less and less pulished and tested when are launched over the time? The comunity has to work with the devs to find bugs, solve problems, add compatibilities, etc.
10 years ago that was an exception, nowadays is almost the rule to follow to a lot of games.

Yes but it was a whole lot easier back then.
But i agree people want quantity over quality and then they complain that the games are buggy but it should be released on time and have all these amazing things. If it costs less and i have the ability to help change how the game is gonna develop after this as well as bug fixes then ill definitely choose that.

Also remember that this is a smaller company with a huge game on its hand and a little more bugs than usual and then you have massive companies like EA who release games all the time and they are [censored] jsut nobody hears of that anymore. Everyone likes to burn the little guy for buggering up.

I agree in some part T.Vann, but in other no. But what I see here is a game that has almost no testing at all. Ati problems, sli, a lot of computers in which the game doesn't run at all.
So they took some computers and run the game on it, and they didn't found any computer that failed in those tests?

I'm patient, and I wish to play the game, but I see also that a lot of people will be discorauged to play it with so many bugs, demand refunds of the game, and a lot more problems. That makes a game get bad reputation, and reduce the comunity of game...a multiplayer game, so I fear that when I could play (expect I would play it in a neareast future) the game would be dead.

I would prefered a delay of 1-3 months to polish it. That would made the game run on all computers, more smotheer and the comunity surely had welcomed Brink a lot better.

PD: Sorry for going a bit offtopic and my english

Yup, I see those COD kiddies in BFBC2 all the time. As for realism, I can handle the non-realism of the graphics in the game and the "cartoonishness"(nope not a word, I made it up) of it. But I was actually expecting something similar to Unreal Tournament graphics as far as "fantasy" goes and IMO it pales in comparison to Unreal Tournament games by far. It's not even in the same league.

I was going to say that exact same thing. I am anxiously awaiting the release of Battlefield 3 and I would rather see them delay it than release it as a buggy game. Of course not everything can be foreseen, but as for this Brink game I've NEVER bought or seen a game thats had so many issues out of the box in my entire life...and I'm 42 years old and been gaming for about 20+ of those years....actually, been gaming since I had my Commodore 64 and Sega back in the day!

Maybe in the end it will be really good, but as you said, I too agree that more and more will become discouraged with these issues and toss it in the trash and never look back eventually.

no not changed anything.
I have just redownloaded, tried to run, no go.
unistalled the gfx drivers again and used driversweeper and reinstalled my gfx drivers, had to turn off some programs to run the driver install.
Tried the game it worked again.
rebooted and it wont run again, l have now turned off my Tint overlay program and it works again, yet it worked yesterday with the overlay running.

I have been playing online games since 1996 and have NEVER had to do the stuff i have had to do to get this game running.

Fingers crossed they sort out this issue with a patch soon.

HuXx, did you ever get it running again?

apologies for delay in answering, still in work at the moment :)

yeah i had it working again last night.

When i reinstalled my graphics card drivers, I was asked to do turn off certain programs from running to install the drivers. I havent been asked this before, whether thsi is because i installed the latest driver on to a blank canvas (for arguments sake) rather then installin gover old drivers.
Anyway i turned them off to install and tried to start the game, cool it worked.

Rebooted my system and tried to start the game again, back to same old issue.

So i turned off one of the programs i have running by default usually when i play games (as i said in an earlier post it was Tint, a Teamspeak 3 overlay program) and the game worked.

But the day before when i first got the game working it worked fine with all of those programs running. So i have no idea what happened.

Fingers crossed it works when i get home tonight still.

btw nice to see another 40 + gamer, 42 here as well ;)
