They are definitley NOT going to make the release date

I think its entirely plausible that ES: V could get pushed back. However, it is targeted around a holiday release so I'm sure Zenimax will be pushing for the game to be completed by then, so they don't miss out on that sales bonanza. People keep citing this "many years of development" arguement. I say [censored]. Morrowind got delayed. Other AAA titles get delayed all the time. The most notable recent case was Dragon Age: Origins. That game was in development much longer than ES: V was, and then purely for marketing they decided to push the PC release back to coincide with the console release. So it can happen, but my bet is the targeted holiday release means Zenimax has some clout and say about when the game is released.

For all you doubters let me tell you this...

Oblivion was announced on September 10, 2004. At this time the game had been in development for roughly two years.
Oblivion was originally announced to be released in the Winter of 2005 (more than a year after official announcement)
Oblivion is delayed until Second Quarter of 2006.
Oblivion is released on March 21, 2006.

History is on my side, folks. Go ahead and bet against me, though.

This doesn't prove that History is on your side. Oblivion was more than likely there next gen game. After Oblivion and Fallout 3 I think they know what they are doing this time. Don't try and bring other's hopes down by your own doubts. This Thread is pointless.

Because history dictates how they will have worked with a new engine and a much larger staff. I'm sure every hitch they catch while developing will be the exact same ones with the exact duration of time to fix them.

They're not redeveloping the same game with no past knowledge here, come on.

*Oblivion "release announcement": a vague winter 2005 announcement
*Skyrim "release announcement": a very clear 11/11/11 announcement

See the difference here?

...I'll bet this was exactly what the thread creator magcynic was trying to do, get someone like you to set it in stone. Well that's very good to know, not that I really doubted it, it is quite a while after all to just finish this far in development game, so it seemed an achievable release date.

Well, the trailer set it in stone; I'm just reiterating what we've already said. Like Todd has stated many times, the team has been working on the game for quite some time now. The date wasn't set arbitrarily.

It would only be fitting after all this time that members of the forum would continue posting the most in speculating still when the game will launch.........even with a date.

Patience isn't a virtue.

I wonder how many people will open the game on 11-11-11, burn through the main quest in record time, and then be back on the boards speculating on Elder Scrolls 6.

There's so much epicness being announced for the 2011 holiday season.. How on earth am I going to find the time to visit family and friends, buy presents, and all that other tedious crappy real-life stuff. When I get Skyrim: I will want to stockpile food and drink and lock myself in for a month or two at the least.. Can't do that during the holidays. <_<

So yeah, delay plx. Give me a February. :)

Dear OP,

Are you [censored]? Do you have any idea how long they have been working on the game? Are you one of the developers? Do you have any idea what you are actually talking about? No? Ok I thought so.

You give him too much credit.

Well back in the day having followed stuff on Super Smash Bros. Brawl like a hawk back in '07, I saw that the game was getting announced for December 9th, but later got pushed to February...3rd I am thinking it may have been, and then that got pushed back to the true release date of March 9th, 2008.

So forgive me if I ever had even 1% of doubt in my mind, that example I gave was for one of my favourite games of all time, and those delays were killing me, so perhaps there was just a little something in the back of my head to keep me from being shattered if this release did get delayed for any reason.

Glad to hear it is coming along great though, and I'm sure everyone is gonna flip over all the stuff in the February issue of Game Informer, as it has been emphasized that they saw quite a lot.

This thread is kind of devolving, and there's not much point in this kind of speculation to begin with. Gonna close it.
