Tactics

Post » Wed Dec 09, 2009 12:29 pm

Recently i got the Fallout Collectors edition (FO1, FO2 and tactics) and i have taken a liking to Tactics and i was just wondering, does anyone else play this great game?

And if so who is your main character (online or offline).

I just chose one of the preset characters named Snake (then my 1st other 2 team mates were Farsight and Stich).

Yup I absolutely love Tactics. :) I've replayed it dozens of times over the years, experimenting with different builds. I've done Melee, Sniper, Gunner, Doctor and Leader.

Yeah, I had a lot of fun with Tactics. Obviously, it's a little light on plot but I think that's okay considering it's a mission-based squad-based strategy game as opposed to an RPG. It's a nice refinement of the Fallout combat system - sort of the game I was always hoping for from Fallout in terms of combat, at least.

I've done a number of characters in that game, but my favorite one was sort of a Sniper build providing tactical support to my other party members - hanging back with my medic.

I never really messed around much with the online component, though - I'm more of a single-player gamer anyway.

Ah, yes. Tactics. I really should install it and actually finish it one of these days. Always seem to lose my drive for playing it around the time you get to the Super Mutant missions...

But dang, those first few missions are a lot of fun, especially the mission to escort the humvee through the ruined town.

It's not in that building. That safe just contains
Spoiler
some Psycho and a few other items.
Have you explored the whole map?

If you want to know. The device is kept on a
Spoiler
workbench in a jail cell to the west, with a captive Scribe.

Also, equipping a Lockpick set in one of your hands will increase your Lockpick ability.

Haha. Yeah, the levels are huge, so it's easy to overlook things. Feel free to ask here if you need more help. :)

I found Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel quite confusing a game, and never really gave attention to it. I didn't like the idea about isometric tactics game.. Isometric is best for RPG tho.

I rather enjoyed it for a tactical game. And it being set in a Fallout world was good enough for me I guess, but I wasn't that critical back in the day. I liked how you could play with TB and realtime to set up traps for multiple enemies at the same time, so I always brought a few demolition experts :nuke:

Just picked it up today and I really like it. It's quite a bit of a different style to Fallout 1 and 2 but overall it's got the same feel and humour (probably more similar to Fallout 1 than to 2). It might not have the RPG side of things but graphically it's more polished and the combat is deeper, it's a good game in it's own right even if it's not the awesome RPG that the previous titles were.

I'm especially enjoying the way you can use diversions to lure enemies out of their defensive positions and into killing grounds.

I quite liked it as a spin off.

It does exactly what it says, tactical combat, rather well, and showcased an upgraded and relatively superior combat engine than the first two games. I tend to think of FOT as a testbed for new technologies.

The missions make sense, the story is average (again the emphasis is on combat so im okay with this) and the levels are relatively well designed. Reminded me of X-Com to a certain extent.

I also loved setting up firing squads and then luring the enemy into them, and so on. It goes some way to show how the people who claim isometric turn based games are a thing of the past are wrong.

I loved Fallout Tactics, and just reinstalled it and playing again. It has more Ron Perlman narration than any other Fallout game, and also has the voice of R. Lee Ermey, everyone's favorite drill sergeant from Full Metal Jacket. What tops that? :)

Not really true, Fallout 2 has much more given the huge number of ending permutations, although you have to play through the game several times to hear it all.

Fallout tactics is one of my favorite tactics / RPG games.

I really enjoyed the entire story and the management of units and equipment was a blast. My favorite portion of the game is when you finally reach the robot armies. I vividly remember my first play through when I encountered the Behemoth. One of my guys was running across a street while the rest were hiding out of sight behind a wrecked car. The behemoth with its heavy guns CUT the guy in half before he made it across the street. It was a "holy [censored]" moments for me... and I watched as the thing lumbered past on its patrol. It took like 4 AP mines and a rocket sabot round to kill it, lol.

Yep I loved tactics. It was a highly underarted game. the graphics were quite good and if you have a mind for tactics you really can do some neat tactical maneuvers in this game. The story I liked and made perfectly good sense to me. It does not follow current canon and was really a spin-off that I think drew its idea from The encounter with the computer ZAX in Fallout 1 which hints at the computers in the defence network were insane. Which is really the theme from the terminator.
