Ooops.

Goood morning folks! Took me long enough to actually sign up to this thing, I'm almost at the lvl52 target I've been craving for months! lol
Me likey the fan support for this game btw. A ginormic and accurate wiki, an obviously still-active forum, and an impressively well-written series of patches, all created entirely voluntarily by Joe Public! I spent almost a month reading the wiki before I decided to start the game 'for real'.

Anyways, me have problem. I was noseying around in Vahtacen, doing a bit of dungeon-divin'. There be handy boss-chests there, y'see. I was also using 'tcl' to get around quicker (the console's another reason I love this game btw. It's like you have a flying power that you can switch off at will. Tres cool.). So yeah, mook that I am, I grabbed the Ancient Elven Helm while I was passing. Ooops, says I, I'd better put this back. Wait...dang. I can't. It's stuck. As you might expect, I now come to doing the MG questline, and Vahtacen's coming up as instantly done. Handy shortcut, but I still want to do the pillar puzzle.

Long story short, I need to drop quest items. The best fix I can think of is to use 'removeitem', then add it back at the appropriate time. My worry though, is that doing this to quest items may cause bugs, like NPCs not recognising I have it etc. Any better ideas?

P.S: I can haz Fishy Stick? *looks hopeful*

Type setquestobject 000150BA 0 in the console and there you go, it′s dropable. Or you could just revert to an earlier save before you took it. You do save frequently, don′t you? :poke:

And http://images.uesp.net//c/c4/Fishystick.jpg′s your stick, welcome to the forums :foodndrink:

Regarding lvl, in Oblivion high lvls are not to strive for because of the scaling. I′m 50 but wish that I had stayed at 20 or so

Yay! *chomps*

Aaah, I see. I take it I just need to re-questify it when needed. I'm happier with that than my 'deleting' idea. Kudos!

And on the levelling, I guess it's an OCD thing. I've refused to do any quests until I hit ~35 because I want the best levelled items, and I want to get all this +5/+5/+1 daftness out of the way and max my stats so I can actually start enjoying the game. Oblivion really doesn't have the most...efficient levelling system. :(

Anyways, thanks so much for the prompt response. This forum rocks. :)

The idea of making items undropable is that you can′t lose it, thereby hindering yourself to progress. If you plan to hang on to it there shouldn′t be need for making it a quest item again, so long as you know where you have it.
But if you want to, just put a 1 instead of 0 last in that command line and it′s back being a quest item.

Glad to be of assistance :)

Yeah, makes sense, otherwise some people could sell quest items without realising.
Yep, worked like a charm! Just for the sake of it, I put the helm back where it was supposed to be, and 'discovered' it again once I'd gone the proper way. As it turns out, you were right, the quest update happened straight away. Didn't need to change anything. Thanks again, and on with the show!

Oh, just realised I missed part of your earlier message. I do indeed save regularly, and have saves going back 20 levels. My sin however is procrastination, I grabbed the helm so long ago that there's no way I'm losing all that work! lol

That′s a big problem in many games, one of them being Morrowind. But it can be annoying as well, not being able to drop stuff you don′t need

Remember I stole lots of books from a bookstore in Vivec city in the beginning of my first Morrowind game, much later found it was needed for a quest (mage guild or main quest), now I had to find the merchant I sold it to, book did not look any difrent from the other and was probably easy to steal.
And yes the mage guild and thief guild quest can easy leave non droppable and useless quest items in inventory.

All this talk about not being able to move quest items. Well if you're on PC, apparently you are, I suggest the mod http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21104. Not only does it have an option to allow you to move quest items, with a warning, it's loads more than just that. It's an excellent mod that I consider essential. It just does so many "little" things that makes it great. The mod description will describe it much better than I can, check it out.
