There's MGE XE and that's all as far as I know. But do you really need anything else then that?

No. There's MGE XE which is a branch off of MGE you may already be using.

EDIT: The simplest it gets is editing your Morrowind.ini to use a higher draw distance value, which will produce the same effect as if you set FPS Optimizer to extend your draw distance out for you. Doing it through the .ini is 'simple' because it requires no external utilities, but if you don't know what you're doing you're likely to set it to a number that is too high; MW can't draw farther than a certain point by itself without throwing up animation errors and the like, so you won't ever draw anywhere NEAR as far using ini tweaks as you can using MGE's distant land shader.

MGE has a pretty good and simple documentation. MGE XE seems to have everything prepared for first launch.

I suggest just taking MGE XE and just running it as is. That should be good for start, unless your PC is older then Morrowind itself.

Cool, so what is the difference between MGE and MGEXE?

As far as I know MGE EXE's main feature is havig real time shadows that looks awesome. MGE on the other hand has water that MGE EXE's one is uncomparable to. So it comes down to if you want super awesome realistic shadows that really add to immersion, or sweet godly water that you'll be staring at all day long. I am unsure about other features but iirc both of them now have most of the same shaders, so I think that features above are the biggest differences.

The ones that matter to most people are thus:
-XE's code has been further optimized so that its features (like distant land) come at less of a performance hit
-XE's interface has been streamlined in various places so that it is easier for users to understand
-XE supports real time shadow casting from static objects like buildings and trees

Wow, I totally didn't know this. Man, if only it would have the water that MGE rev has. :(

Im having an issue with MGE XE, Any time I try to run the installer I get a 'MGE XEgui has stopped working' message. The installer is in data files. Though what do I do with the mge3 and mwedit folders? the readme is a little vague on this.

You should extract the files so that mgexegui.exe is in the same folder as Morrowind.exe (c:/.../morrowind/).

The most recent update of MGE XE added water waves and such back in, so it's getting better.

It is, still getting the problem.

The only effect currently missing is the chromatic aberration appeared in an experimental SVN build (posted in this forum a while ago) of the main MGE, but as this effect wasn't very popular, there aren't lots of chance to see it back for MGE XE...
I already tried to find and port it to 'XE, but without any success... :(

Did you just drag MGEXEgui.exe into /morrowind/ or did you make sure all of the relevant files were moved up one directory?

It wasn't so much a build as it was an ingame.fx file Tomerk posted if I remember correctly. Don't hold your breath, not a lot of people want their games to look like they were taken with a poor quality camera. A proper glare shader might be interesting though.

Thats the thing, what relevant files? I put the data files in their relevant places, but what about the mwedit and mge3 folders?

The ENTIRE archive you downloaded should be extracted into your /morrowind/ folder so that MGEXEgui.exe is in /morrowind/ with Morrowind.exe. You don't have to worry about anything else, let it all fall exactly the way it wants to when you extract it like that. That means /mge3/, for example, is going to wind up in /morrowind/. It's as simple as dragging and dropping in this case.

Did you do like I said or did you misunderstand? Because it sounds like you just put /mge3/'s contents INTO /morrowind/ rather than putting the folder there so that it would be /morrowind/mge3/.

the MGE_XE-41102-0-9-8 folder is in the Morrowind folder alongside data files, saves, morrowind.launcher etc..

It shouldn't be there. Jut try that: open that folder, cut everything and paste in Morrowind's main folder. So MGEXEgui should appear alongside Morrowind exes, as well as mge3 folder should appear alongside Data Files folder.
