Passive/Agressive Creatures

Post » Sun Dec 13, 2009 12:06 am

I, for one, would like the thought of the animals throughout Skyrim having a similar mechanics to New Vegas, where, if by their young, they'll protect them, but if they're on their own, they won't attack, or even flee, like most would... I'm sorry but most animals I approach usually don't stand around while I get on top of them, I think it'd add much more of a true feeling if most animals, carnivores included, would flee upon detecting you.

With another exception being a den or certain territory, such as a cave or something similar, the animal would then defend its territory properly.

I was thinking about making a thread of this. Thank you for making it. We need some passive creatures. I mean... every mudcrabs, every wolf, every bear... come on . Especially with the mudcrabs. I think there should be more passive creatures. A lot of birds especially, but also a lot of fishes. Moose (passive of course) wouldn't hurt either, and squirrels :)

Bears should only attack if you ... go near them and run around. Wolves shouldn't attack very often, not unless they are in packs. Single wolves should attack only if they are threatened.

But the animal behaviour shouldn't be the same all the time. Sometimes there will be exceptions, etc. Exceptions are realistic, not every animal thinks the same.

Well they should be passive sometimes but Meese can be quite dangerous, especially when it's getting close to the sixy time.

If every single animal attacked me like they do in Morrowind/Oblivion, I would never leave my house. Also, if there is fast travel, don't make fleeing animals or NPCs stop me.

Not everything was aggressive in Morrowind (though most was)

like not all scribs wanted you dead or the uh kwaama? (however it's spelled)

or uh Guars (I'm having trouble remembering anything today let alone creature names)

or the uh flying thingies the betties and bull netches

might have been more, I dun recall

Wolves shouldn't attack very often, not unless they are in packs. Single wolves should attack only if they are threatened.

The irony of that is that there have been many more aggressive lone wolves than packs because they're generally much more food deprived. So maybe having starving variants of animals or something of the like.

But I would like more just passive creatures too, mountain goats, reindeer, elk, even seal in the most northern of parts.

I would like it if the "weaker" creatures (like mudcrabs and the like) were passive, however, it would still be reasonable to be charged by a bear, or attacked by a rabid animal. Another interesting concept that I'd like to see implemented would be being stalked/hunted by wolves and the like.

At first I thought this was about passive-aggressive creatures, and I was confused. Like a bear that shows up late to fight me, complains of being cheated when I get the upper hand, and blames his loss on a nearby deer.

Anyway...

I think that there should be more passive animals, and that creatures like wolves should attack in packs. If there is only one wolf left it could run away, only turning to fight if its cornered.

I voted yes, I don't want to fight every wolf, bear, and boar that happens to catch wind of me, because one; it is a pain, and two; it is totally unrealistic. Wild animals don't always attack you on sight, and a lot may flee depending on the circumstances. Oh, and...

Well they should be passive sometimes but Meese can be quite dangerous, especially when it's getting close to the sixy time.

Ohoho. Then what of Wolves, through the period of January-April? That's their mating season, does that mean from a ways after a new year, they should act a bit...differently, too? Like... :hugs:

Like some pairs of wolves remain quite close by each other's side, and sometimes nuzzle a little at each other's snouts affectionately or something. Just a thought from when you mentioned that, thinking of one of the animals I know to have appeared in an Elder Scrolls game.

I would have to admit it can get annoying fighting everything I pass, so maybe more passive creatures, but have a mix isnt so important, perhaps they would run away really early if you bonk them on the head

It needs to vary. Sometimes, a bear will be hungry enough to try too kill anything within 200 yards, but the rest of time as long as you aren't close to it, it'll just leave you alone. Oh, there need to be packs of wolves too. And bears with their cubs.

Yes, definitely want more passive things, and more varied behavior AI (but that's getting off topic), and more things in-between than ignoring you and trying to kill you. Mudcrabs might attack if you get in range of stepping on them, but ignore you otherwise; crabs are mostly scavengers, and only catch things if they get close enough to. What the heck are the stupid things doing, chasing me off the beach and into the woods? Does it think it's going to run me down with its amazing sprinting speed? Wolves might not attack or flee immediately, but instead circle you and growl in warning because you're in their territory.

pretty much this

with a bear it could show warning signs of aggression before actually attacking you for example

bears or well most creatures don't just generally see you and charge you immediately (well with the exception of a very hungry animal or like a polar bear lol)

oh and yes mudcrabs pursuing me to the ends of the earth is funny lol...

why did I just get a mental image of a swarm of mudcrabs attacking... and some of them piling up on top of each other to get at face pinching level

Some other fauna I hope to find which would be another passive/aggressive type would be the elusive Lynx, and the small, but ever so tough, wolverine. I'd personally like to keep it pretty appropriate for Scandinavian Fauna and Flora, but not neglecting some TES lore creatures as well of course.

Having it so the randomized spawn points also randomized the Aggression level of said spawned creature would be great. So not only would animals usually flee, but sometimes you get that one that really is out for your blood. That, mixed with the "hunting" AI mentioned by others.

It would be nice to see some non-agressive wild animals and some that attack only if you get close to them.
I actualy belice that it will be one of the things wi will actualy see in skyrim.

After playing Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul mod on Oblivion, not having to fight every single wolf I come across, was a welcomed change.

Obviously I want passive creatures. It's silly that every little thing attacks you...c'mon mudcrabs ?! Even big animals, like bears wouldn't attack.

Actually in OB I think due to the fact I had a Personality of 255 (cheats obviously) most animals didn't attack me, actually even some bandits, marauders or dremoras stood still when I approached (easy kill :hehe:) and I thought this made the game more realistic, it was pretty cool to get near a wolf and just stand there, as if my character was one with nature :P.
