Questions about weapons

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 10:31 am

Hi everyone, I'm trying to get a 3 weapon set including:
  • One good medium range weapon: like a Hunting Rifle
  • One good short range automatic: like a 9mm SubMachine Gun for spraying enemies when I run out of VATS
  • One good sniper rifle for very long range: I have yet to see one in the game (any ideas)
BTW, is there any RANGE indicator on weapons other than common sense. I ask this because in VATS my 9mm is showing about the same percent as my Hunting Rifle and that just should't be.

Now mind you I already have a handful of weapons I just want more.

A second part of this question: Are there any specialty weapons like in another game I played long long ago (like the Victory Rifle (sniper), Blackhawk (.357 magnum) and the Lincoln's Repeater (rifle .44 magnum). And at what point in the game can I obtain one? And do they have special crits.

Ok, all for now. Thanks, G   :gun:

Fully modded .308 hunting rifle
Light machine gun
Anti-materiel rifle?

Optimum choice will depend a bit on your character's Strength. No clue about range. I'm not aware of this differing from weapon to weapon. What does differ is spread, making pistols practically unusable in "very long range" situations. The hunting rifle and AMR both have extremely low spread, as do the various sniper rifles. There are unique weapons if that's what you mean, though I'm not going to spoil them if you haven't run across them yet yourself. There are several at different points in the main game and DLC's. :)

This Machine is an excellent mid-long renge weapon.

Late game the 12.7 mm is very good for automatic short range.

Christine's silenced COS rifle for sniping

The best way to determine range of a weapon is to check the weapons spread on the wiki. Lower spread=longer range. Unfortunatly, there is no in-game counter for this.
