Morrowind Research

Post » Tue Dec 15, 2009 4:34 am

I'm going to put together a powerpoint on the various aspects of Morrowind for a class, but I need help getting information.

I'm required to find out the following:

Engine Technology
-Is the game in a 2D or 3D game engine?
-What platform is it running on (Windows, iPhone, Android, Console, etc.)
-What's the name of the game engine?
-Is it available for public license?
-Does the product have an "editor" available for user generated content creation
(MOD)?

Art Assets
-Describe the technology behind the art assets themselves.
-Pick a few main elements from the game such as characters, architecture, main props,
vehicles and/or weapons.
-How many polygons are the 3D assets?
-How were the models constructed?
-If the game is 2D, how were the sprites or images created?
-What resolution is the game running at?

Pipeline
-Research the art pipeline for the game.
-What is the process by which the art‐assets end up in the game and how are the assets
created.

History
-Is this a franchised or versioned product?
-How many copies have been sold?
-What's the developer and publisher relationship and history?

-----

I can answer some of this information, but I'm not technical enough to understand the rest. Any help that can be provided would be fantastic.

-What platform is it running on (Windows, iPhone, Android, Console, etc.) Windows
and X-box

-Describe the technology behind the art assets themselves. 3d models Made in 3dmax v.4 and exported to .Nif format. I guess?

-How many polygons are the 3D assets? depends on objects, Full set of armor was around 5 000 when I imported, forks probably had less then 30
-How were the models constructed? 3d models Made in 3dmax v.4 and exported to .Nif format. I guess?
-What resolution is the game running at? 640x480~ up to 1600x1200 I think

Pipeline
-Research the art pipeline for the game.
-What is the process by which the art‐assets end up in the game and how are the assets
created.

I imagine pure boredom you'll experience writing stuff like this. research might be interesting at some degree but

Check out http://www.mjonesgraphics.com/ website, there's a section of the work he did for Morrowind there (click on Past Projects).

This is meant purely visually, right?

Then I'd say Dunmer in general for characters seeing how they constitute about half of the overall population. For architecture the Telvanni mushroom towers are probably most intriguing. Not sure what is meant by props. As for weapon there is a bunch of artifacts. you could also cover Daedric armor and call it a main prop or something.

Right, so I still need info on:

Art Assets
-Describe the technology behind the art assets themselves.
-How were the models constructed?

Pipeline
-Research the art pipeline for the game.
-What is the process by which the art‐assets end up in the game and how are the assets
created.

btw, thanks again guys; this powerpoint is going to kick my ass >.<

What exactly does pipeline mean in this context?

Its a meaningless buzz-word that refers to an ongoing project.

And if I recall, they used 3DS Max to make the models.

Can anyone provide any more info?

Perhaps a dev would be kind enough to answer your questions if you sent them in a email. I know its a long shot, but at least it'd be right from the source.
