A simple scholar

So I want to make a character, I am very excited about this one!

I have only read one full book in Morrowind and that is The Unnamed Book it was fantastic, so:

I want to make an extremely poor (as in not a lot of money).

A character that reads all the good books he can find!! :read:

I would like him to be an honest merchant as well! That would be the source of income. :shifty:

And my last specific is that I would like him to be a Wood Elf! :foodndrink:

It would be absolutely outstanding if someone can put together a character for me!!

I will be playing the Xbox GOTY edition. And thank you all very much!! Hope to see a post soon!
And Happy Easter everyone! :bunny:

How do you feel about fighting? There will be tight situations so do you want to be stealthy and as non-violent as possible or be able to fight your way out when necessary? Also, how do you feel about magic? There is an RPG connection between scholars and intelligence based skills but it isn't a rule. Along with book reading, do you want to explore ruins for archaeological study? Throw out any thoughts you have about how you see your character. One thing in particular, what Great House do you see joining, if any? Also any guilds you think you would like you join or avoid.

I think I would love to be able to fight my way out, but avoid situations when possible. Maybe Bow and arrows would be best. ;)

I think it would be cool to know Alchemy and maybe a little illusion. :) It would fit with the trading, and avoiding situations when possible.

Along with book reading, do you want to explore ruins for archaeological study?

I think a little dungeon crawling would be cool, but nothing special. Enough to handle the Seyda Neen cave down by the Strider, and maybe two to three dungeons. But I would like to travel light. I don't want any large war hammers and such :) I am a scholar after all.

One thing in particular, what Great House do you see joining, if any? Also any guilds you think you would like you join or avoid.

If there is a traders guild I don't know of I would like to join that! :)
But other then that, my scholar is not a thief, he is able to get out of trouble and avoid enemies and bandits. But has no reason to steal. Though a good book that the shop keeper won't part with for a fair enough price might discover a few pieces of gold in place of where he last saw the book. :whistling:

OK, I think I can make a suggested build.

Wood elf
sign: Lady (a bosmer needs the extra endurance and personality)
Favored attributes: strength and endurance (like above)
Specialty: stealth

Majors:

Restoration (useful for any build, restores health and fatigue plus fortifies)
Alchemy (every scholar knows botany, and it's very helpful for restore health potions and money making)
Marksman ( bosmers get a big bonus and it can be your main offensive skill)
mercantile (make as much money as you want)
Blunt weapon ( build strength plus a melee backup, and if you do the MQ, you'll be set to use Sunder, probably the best weapon in the game)

Minors:

Enchant (efficient use of enchanted items and builds intelligence)
Mysticism ( useful utility spells and scholarly subject)
Light armor (protection that gets bonus from race and specialty)

Athletics or ( helps to move faster unless you want to use BOBS)
Acrobatics ( another race and specialty bonus skill helps to climb steep slopes and jump)

Illusion or (calm and charm spells)
Alteration (open and levitate spells)

Alternatives: Maybe unarmored instead of light armor if you want to be a little weaker and lighter. Goes well with the scholar image, I think.

Great House:

Hlaalu (focuses on trading and money making. There is a dishonest aspect to some of the members but not all and it has favored attributes that you'll have for advancement.

Telvanni (ultimate scholarly theme but also cold blooded and isolated style that may not not be for you) If this appeals to you, the above build will have to be tweaked slightly for advancement purposes by definitely taking either Alteration or Illusion which are favored skills.

Awesome thank you very much! (Please look it over :) This is what I took from it.)

Wood elf
sign: Lady
Favored attributes: strength and endurance
Specialty: stealth

Majors:

Restoration
Alchemy
Marksman
mercantile
Unarmored

Minors:

Enchant
Mysticism
Blunt weapon
Acrobatics
Illusion

Great House: Hlaalu (I don't like Televanii. :) And I also like the whole Trader thing!)
I think it would be better to switch Blunt Weapon with Unarmored.. What do you think? Because I already have a major attack. And a Major defense is a good idea.

You'll find unarmored to be a very powerful skill, as well, if you raise it above 100 with enchanted items. The formula for calculated armor rating based only on Unarmored is:

0.0065 * (skill lvl)^2

So, for example, if you raise your Unarmored skill from 20 to 30, you only gain 2.3 armor rating points. But from level 100 to 110 gets you 13.7 extra armor rating. Yay for exponential growth! Unarmored at lvl 200 is like wearing full Daedric armor, without the weight and need for constant repairing. Takes a lot of CE jewelry and clothing, though....
