Fallout 3 = fine, Patch =.... uhoh

Post » Wed Dec 16, 2009 9:32 pm

Just installed the latest offical patch and.... http://a.imageshack.us/img840/4385/holy.png

Now I've just recently reinstalled windows due to my old hardrive getting fried, I'm guessing this is either a driver error.... or something went wrong with the patching.

I'm running Windows XP SP3, on a Dell XPS M1530 laptop.
Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU, T8300 @ 2.40 GHZ
Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT

Any ideas what this error message is?

As much as I remember how stable prepatched F3 was when I first bought it, I really need it patch to get modding... :(

From the pinned topic labelled 'Troubleshooting Tips' at the top of this very forum :)

Receiving a message stating "the ordinal 5360 could not be located in the dynamic link library xlive.dll" Downloading the latest version of Games for Windows LIVE should help. Please visit this http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=128962 to download.

*facepalms* I don't even want to use Games for Window's LIVE.... I'm planning on using FOSE and that overwrites it.

Edit: Big thanks for the speedy reply though, most forums it usually takes till this time tomorrow for someone to reply to me.

As long as LIVE is up to date it doesn't matter. You just need the most recent version that the game will recognise, you don't have to actually use it.

I think Fallout 3 Mod Manager has a means to castrate the xlive.dll and replace it with a dummy to pretty much clean your hands of GFWL.

OH MY GOD THANKYOU, I had that installed but hadn't used it yet, wanted to make sure everything was working before fiddling with mods...

That download for GFWL would've taken 3 Hours on this cr*** wifi connection, you've just saved me 3 hours waiting, diskspace, and a dodgily made program!

Edit: A mod may lock this topic, due to the problem being solved! ^_^
