What do you want

Post » Fri Dec 18, 2009 2:54 pm

I heard-tell that the Telvanni don't get much love in the modding department, specifically in the housing department. Well, I've established a Telvanni house-modding department on a temporary basis, and I need to know..

..what do you want in a Telvanni house?

Now.. this house is a reasonable house. It's more of a manor than a house, and more of a tower than a manor. So, it's a towering Telvanni manor-house. It's right outside of Tel Aruhn, with it's own personal boat transport to and from (you've got to row the boat yourself to get there.. who would want to sit around and wait for you?!) the island. It's in the form of the straight Telvanni tower, towering high up in the air to provide a great view of the surrounding area. Couple it with MGE and you've got yourself a nice roof-top vista.

What this house will not feature: training dummies, uber stuff, a swimming pool, a bathing area, a combat room, naked dancers, butlers, dumb dummies for hanging your armour, super book sorter, and super alchemy sorter.

What this house will feature, at a minimum: an exterior, a spacious (in the confines of Telvanni architecture) interior, a bedroom, a storage room, a great room, an extra bedroom, a simple alchemy sorter, and some doors here and there, to get here and there, to and from there and here.

So what did you want? Anything special?

Here's what I've got so far:

Umm... i would liiike, training dummies, uber stuff, a swimming pool, a bathing area, a combat room, naked dancers, butlers, dumb dummies for hanging your armour, super book sorter, and super alchemy sorter.

Ha ha, just joking :P

Maybe a quest to gain ownership of the manor? Maybe a few servants or something.

I think you heard wrong. It's the Redoran that constantly get the shaft in the modding department.

Anyway, it looks pretty good so far. It's on a smaller scale than most Telvanni mods, which is a good thing. I'd totally use it as my summer home.

Maybe a single scamp as a servant? Perfect for the lone Telvanni. You can beat him without feeling bad about it. ;)

I want a dumb naked dancing butler who will wear armor if I tell him to, sort my books/alchemy, bathe regularly and let me hit him to train my weapon skill.

Or uh, if that isn't possible, a basemant in which I can store my fine bottles of ancient dagoth brandy would be nice.

I like that first train of ideas.

Definitely something to gain ownership. I'm not fond of big stuff for free. Little houses... yea, those are fine. People would abandon those/die regularly, so I don't feel bad about making small free things. But this thing?! Nahh.. too big and spacious and luxurious to be free. I'm thinking two ways to get it: renting and buying. You can rent it until you own it, but you'll pay more.. or you can buy it all at once for a hefty sum, if you have the moola for it. I'll have to figure out who the owner is though!

Oh.. well... I've already started on this mod... so Redoran can be next? Haha.

I don't like big scale either.. too much work! Well, I like it, but I don't like the tediositinessfulness. What would a servant do in the scope of game limitations?

Interesting, I'll look into that. As for the basemant... you can store whatever you want in there.

Heh, you're telling me! I've been working on UL for over three bloody years. At least it's nearly done...before I'm completely sick of working on it. This is why I stop modding and go hide for months at a time.

Anyway, I don't think a scamp servant would be particularly useful. I just figured it would lend a bit of atmosphere to the tower. You could shove him in the attic and visit him. Give him some amusing dialogue. Kill him when he gets annoying... ;)

He could sort ingredients for you. Place it in an alchemy laboratory or a similar room.

The most important for me (and apparently, only for me): There should be a quest to take possession of it. I don't want a house like "I am a well furnished FREE house, everybody can come in and claim it as his own."

Perhaps making occupancy of the house dependent on "removing" the former resident as a mission for one of the other Telvanni Mage Lords? After the quest, you can use it for a small monthly fee until they find a buyer. If you've got lots of cash and enough faction rep, then you can become that buyer.

Making the place decent, but not spectacular, would be preferable in my opinion to another overblown and absurd luxury hotel/museum/fortress packed to the rafters with built-in freebies, masquerading as a home. I like the general concept so far.

I would say, a little quest like: you meet a scamp that is seaching for some ingredients for his master (the master of the tower).
He asks you to help him to find these ingredients (and he follows you in follow mode, to the nearest cavern). Then, the scamp tells you how harsh is his master, he beats often the scamp with no reason, and the scamp would like if the PC could take the place of his master, and says he would serve the PC at his best, if the pc removes the Telvanni.

If you have the heart.. :'(

I agree with the "no freebie" thing, so I am and was already following your philosophy.

These ideas are beginning to take shape. ;) Also, I agree with the freebie-palooza masquerading as a home. You've seen my work, you know what it's like. ;)

Good idea, sir. Then, you can be a diplomat (positively or negatively) with this mean, mean man.. or use brute strength.. or go above his head, somehow. OR, go below his head and take his head.. hehe.

Well, Stuporstar is right... These days the Telvanni get everything, the Hlaalu get a little, but the Redorans? Zilch.
After I'm done with my Hlaalu home in Balmora, I'll be doing one for the Redorans in Ald-Ruhn.
(Hmm... I was going to make my trilogy of "Great House" house mods all equivilent,
but perhaps I'll make the Redoran one just a little fancier, to help make up for the overall neglect.)

Anyway, this looks really good, but if you don't mind, I do have one request.
In order for me to use a house mod, it needs "Necessities of Morrowind" compatibility.
(It's my favorite mod, and I never play without it.)

NOM comes with a very useful resource plugin, that lets you easily add NOM's components to your mod,
without making your mod actually require it at all.

That way it can have full NOM features, but can be played without it, for those who don't use NOM.
It's the best of both worlds! I do my own mods with it for precisely that reason.

Gaius, I'll be including NoM support. I use it too! I thought it was a hassle the first time I used it, but now that I've come back to it.. it adds that touch of realism to the game.

I hope so. :P
Apart from Centurion's mod there's very little in the way of stronghold improvements for us Redorans.

So I was stainborming with all these ideas:

You're wandering about, and come across the tower (maybe, maybe not). Going up to the door, it is locked, and someone starts yelling at you to go away.
Nearby is an ancestral tomb. Upon coming up to it, you notice a scamp walking out, and it doesn't attack you.
You approach it, and find that this scamp is willing to talk to you! He tells you that his master lives in the tower on the adjacent island, and he had sent the scamp out to gather some bonemeal for an experiment.
If you probe the scamp with questions, he'll eventually tell you that his master is very mean to him and beats him when things go wrong, even if they're not his fault.
He mentions that he was not able to venture far enough into the tomb without being attacked, so he couldn't get the bonemeal that his master wanted.
You can offer your help to get some bonemeal. Whether you go in the tomb here and get it, or buy it, or already had it.. as long as you get him some bonemeal, you're good.
He takes you to the manor and you follow him up the stairs, where you're granted the option to come in or not (not by the master's permission, mind you.. you can follow the scamp in).

You speak to the master, who is very mean and snobby. He doesn't like you because you've snuck into his house and probably assisted the scamp with his duties, and tells you that he'll beat the scamp later.
You have a few options: Leave, talk him out of it, talk him into selling you the place, talk someone else into killing him, kill him yourself, talk someone else into making him leave.. maybe other options. Be careful what you choose though.
