Windows 7 Strange problems with patches not working HELP!

Post » Sat Dec 19, 2009 9:59 pm

I have looked around the internet, about my problem and nothing seems to work so I'm really getting annoyed please help :S

I recently got a new computer which works all fine and everything all the drivers install and whatnot, i installed Oblivion successfully (GOTY edition) and the expansions Nights of the nine and The shivering isles, I then also downloaded The elder scrolls construction set which installed normally, i then tried to patch the Construction set, and it gave me a weird error message: Patch Warning: Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents don't match. It also pops up with another message saying the same thing but saying Patch Failure at the top.

I then tried to patch Oblivion itself since i wanted to and i also wanted to test out if it would work, same thing, the patches will not work.

I have uninstalled all my mod's, i have reinstalled the game, it the game functions fine but every time i try, the patches will not install, i Downloaded the OBMM and that installed and it can install mods successfully, i even tried re-installing the game to a different file outside the Program Files. I Tried Patching the game without any Mod's installed or present not even OBMM.

Oblivion could be patched fine on my other computer with XP so i just don't understand.

So both Oblivion and Shivering Isles patches do not work, as well as the patch for The construction set.

I have seen on other sites on the web that this could be due to a no-CD crack, i have not done this and i will not do this so it could not possibly be a cause.

I'm thinking it's because of Windows 7 but I'm not sure.

Really? Cool okay then how come the construction set update says the same thing?
I downloaded it from the internet because it does not come on a CD.

I just want to reinforce that Oblivion GOTY, when fully installed (including KotN and SI) is up-to-date official patch wise. Nothing else needs be done. You'll of course want the various Unofficial Patches and their Supplementals. (UOP is still 3.2.0 but the supplement is up to 3.3.1.) Coming from XP which didn't care where the game was installed, are you aware that you should NOT install Oblivion in the default directory when running either Vista or Win7? That can cause all sorts of grief. Instead, install it somewhere like C:\Games\Bethesda\Oblivion\, or D:\Games\... assuming you have more that one partition or physical drive. Doesn't really matter where so long it isn't the default.

As to Construction Set, I've no idea, never having attempted to install it.

The 1.2 version of the CS is the latest and greatest. There are no patches for it, you just download the 'new' version.

Bit more info please. What operating system are you running, and is oblivion installed in the default directory?

Try navigating to where you downloaded the patch to, right click on it, and select "Run as Admin". See if that helps.
