Merging all my mods?

Post » Sun Dec 20, 2009 6:22 pm

Hello,

I was wondering what would happen should I merge all my active mods into one huge mod with the Construction Set.
Would this cause conflicts, missing stuff, loads of bugs, etc?

It would make balancing/fixing mods much easier for me if this could be done.

If did it and it works fine. Totally recommended. Load faster & more compatibility. A lot of message errors magically disappear. Excluding MGE and Enhanced mods, of course.

Yes, if done willy-nilly.

With no precautions whatsoever? I'm amazed. And sceptical.

I'd recommend some background reading:

Morrowind Mythic Mods archived threads:

On this forum, a good thread:

Somehow, this comes to mind.

One may assume that if the TESCS uses the same merging algorithm as the game does it in theory should work (as after all the game has to merge all the records down). Although you know what they say, in theory, theory and practice are the same thing, in practice...

I do always tend to be a bit wary of the "best practices" that no-one has checked but everyone knows must be true, as it is what everyone else says. It often turns out that there is no available and reproducible evidence to back it up.

I merged the Modular version of Wakim's gameplay tweaks along with a few 'tiny' mods. Would I run into any problems? Sorry for the thread Hijack, but I guess the answer could benefit the OP as well.

Use TESPCD first. Ensure that there are no conflicts between the mods you wish to merge (note TESTPCD doesn't check CELL records). If there are you need to fix them until TESPCD reports no errors. Then you should be OK to merge using the CS. Can't promise you won't have any problems.

Alternatively, check all mods you wish to merge with TESPCD and don't merge those ones that do conflict.

I think the best way to do this would be to merge records with esper and leveled lists with mash before merging mods together. Once you merge the mods together any conflicting records would overwrite each other.

Avoiding conflicts, always it would be better off having just one mod than a lot of them. It's the gospel truth.

My recomendation is: First be sure, then to merge.
