Forests!

Post » Tue Dec 22, 2009 11:36 am

If Skyrim ends up looking that good, real life will no longer be an option for me. All that will exist is the game, and everything else is just there to keep me occupied while recharging controller batteries..

I'd prly lose my job. Ah well, at least I could play until the power got shut off lol.

Considering that video is from a game done in 2007 it will look far better than that xD

i hope there are different types of forest for different regions, the most common forests should be made up of pinetrees and be of various thickness, whilst in some areas trees with branches that start higher up would be awsome. i also hope for large fields with big puddles that reflect the sky.

---Bigger Trees
---Taller Trees
---Closed canopy
---More variety in forest type - old growth with massive trees, younger forests with smaller, thicker trees and undergrowth, wooded swamps & bogs
---More variety in color (seems Oblivion always had that same shade of green going on, and was never as lush as it could have been)
---More structure - meaning downed trees, gnarly root masses, branches, logs, gullies, keep the boulders, hollow logs and stumps, make use of terrain/topography, etc.
---Interactive - possibly make trees climbable, but otherwise some big hollow logs you can crawl through, or a half-fallen tree you can walk up like a ramp.... etc.
---Ambiance - fireflies & dragonflies (depending on how cold it really is), birds, little critters, birdsong, falling leaves (though most trees would be conifers), etc.
---Really magical places - beautiful streams, dramatic waterfalls, forested cliffsides & mountainsides
---Continue using man-made structure - ancient stairways & bridges in the woods (make them actually look old!)

...and the like........

I'd love to see mushroom forests and various other "alien" forests a la Morrowind and SI.

There should be purple and blue and white and various other eyetacular colors! And of course many "regular" forests.

The coast should be without trees though. There could also be some mushrooms and berry-bushes in the forest, and moss.

And am I the only one who wants some NON pine forests? I mean I know it's BASED on Scandinavia which has them almost exclusively, but some variety would be nice. Like this.

I don't imagine the elves working, they are not mythical, forest dwelling creatures in the Elder Scrolls games.

Well there are many classes of elves as far as i know, so there could be a class (or classes) of elves that lives in the forest, if they want it they can definetaly add it

I don't think it's any stretch of the imagination that there could be a society of Bosmer in some forests.

For those of you who want trees that are like the ones out your backdoor: Why don't you go out your back door? Just saying.
Trees unseen in the real world would be the way to go for me...

I would like ancient http://www.linach-talsperre.de/images/p1020992.jpg, forests where http://bartwrzesniowski.com/blog/schwarz/schwarzwald_germany_forest.jpg, forests where you can get lost, http://www.amdiv.de/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/seen-im-schwarzwald.jpg. I would also like that lightning is made in such fashion that if I'm deep in the forest I have more shadows and less light and if I'm http://xanadu.wdfiles.com/local--files/general%3Aimages/deepforestclearing.jpg. Also cliffs and gorges, hidden valleys, http://commondatastorage.googleapis.com/static.panoramio.com/photos/original/27464193.jpg in the middle of the deep forest...
