Can't Fast travel from here

Post » Tue Dec 22, 2009 6:47 pm

Hey guys,

I have a question. I can't fast travel from anywhere, is this is a feature to artificially extend the gametime you can get out of the Dead Money DLC or is this a bug of some sort?

Thanks

It's not a bug, so i guess it's "a feature to artificially extend the game time". It is kind of a nuisance, and definitely could be argued as needless to have to walk back and fourth through areas constantly rather than just fast travel, but since a feature of the DLC is that the area itself is an enemy (with the traps, the fog, and the collar), the idea is to keep you immersed in the whole "one false move and you're dead" atmosphere, which would be killed pretty quickly if you could just avoid everything by fast traveling everywhere.

No, This is not a bug. This means you're starting the DLC while already started the End Game. You can't fast travel because the exit by the visitors center is blocked. This happens when you start the End Game. So load a saved game that is situated before the End Game. Fast travel works now!

ok....the official reason, which it says on the load screens...pay attention...is the same reason for you not being able to sleep in any outdoor beds..which there are many...as the cloud is precieved as an enemy even if u have used the ventalation which gets rid of some of it....this is important because you can't sleep or fast travel with enemies nearby!

this and as ADoseOfBuckley said..it's to make the dlc longer :)

The DLC was supposed to have a horror/ survival feel to it. They didn't want you fast traveling all over the place like in the Mojave because then it becomes to easy.
Besides it's not even that big of a place, you'll live (well maybe not in the game).

If you play in hardcoe mode you get an even better feeling of the area itself being an enemy, since you constantly take small amounts of damage every so often to represent the corrosive effects of the toxic crud the air has become.

Side note: it's too bad you get stripped of everything prior to starting the DLC (although I do like the survivalist aspect that provides, I'm not a fan of forced item selection), since by doing so they missed an opportunity to allow the use of the re-breather you can get from the Boomers as a means of countering/reducing the effect. Since the re-breather itself would degrade instead, you'd have a use for the dozens of pairs of glasses you will amass without even trying to. Alternatively, provide a(n) (semi-)expensive item that can be purchased from the vending machines, such as the safety suits the Ghost People wear, that soaks the damage for you but cannot be repaired and is removed upon breaking and has to be replaced. This would have the double effect of reinforcing that the place itself is hostile and draining a large percentage of the forged chips the player will doubtless be making once learning how from Christine.

Power armor should come in handy too. It filters your air supply.
