Legend and Myth in TheElderScrolls V:Skyrim

Post » Fri Dec 25, 2009 5:12 am

I loved hearing all the legends and lore in Oblivion. Either hearing it from a random NPC or a note on the ground. Especially the mythical off journal quests such as the Underfrykte Matron. I would like you to bring that plus more back to TES V: Skyrim. I want more myths, legends, and "Campfire Stories". Possibly you travel in a new village and speak to some local residents. These local residents tell of a mythical beasts that slaughters the town farmers livestock. You could then set up traps and slay the creature. I mainly love lore and legend for the pure excitment and myth behind it. You never know what you could stumble upon. Maybe you hear one thing from one villager and one from another. Off journal quests are especially awesome because they simply add to the game. Instead of an exact path to the objective you get your information from townspeople and notes, such. Also maybe add a town crier that stands in the center of town rambling on about nonsense that no one pays attention to. You could investigate and turns out to be a mighty adventure. These legends could be tough battles, worth bragging rights to your friends. Or simply a stroll up a hill. In the forum below let us know what you think could be cool Legends or Off the book quests.

I want more. Folklore and mythical stuff going on in the background really fleshes out gameworlds, in my opinion, and I loved them in Morrowind and Oblivion. My current favorite is a tie between the the local folk legend of the Forlorn Watchman and the tale of Garridan Stalrous.

More rumours that leads to cool stuff. It could be artifacts, secret locations, etc. I want more of that. But you have to think for yourself, don't reveal everything to the player, and for God's sake don't make them quests.

In addition to what I said earlier, this is Skyrim, the place I'm sure at least 85% of us are basing off of Scandinavia and the Vikings. They must have plenty of Norse-like mythology and legends, stuff akin to Beowulf and the Uderfrykte in Bloodmoon and Oblivion.

Well obviously they aren't technically 'Vikings' but they are very very VERY similiar, so I would like to see their culture based off of viking culture.

And Alexander Skaargard.

It's surely possible I think. Just look at Bruma. Some of the architecture looks quite "vikingish".
And here, look at this from Morrowind... that awesome dungeon quest (was one of my favourite quests in whole Morrowind), where a nordic warrior was buried in a tomb, on what you can call a viking ship.

Maybe ONE city could have a unique architecture that resembles to the viking culture a bit.

I would think that they could apply viking culture to it all, just not copy viking culture, giving different areas different aspects of viking culture? Just a thought.

If the devs want to, sure. Who wouldn't want extra content? Of course, the only scenario where I might consider it too much content is where I'm still trying to beat Skyrim 100% by the time TES VI comes out. :P

Would be a pleasure to see, especially if they replaced those wimp pirates from TES Oblivion.

I loved the quest in Morrowind, where a guy asked you to get him a drink in a bar. If you did, he tells you a story of his adventure and about finding a cave with something special in it on an island of a certain shape on the southern part of vvardenfell. if you know what I mean... :goodjob:

Yeah we need big strapping manly nords, braving the cold wearing nothing but some animal furs and the blood of their enemies on there bare chests.

Pirates are freaking lame.

Yea, I can take them out with bare hands literally. It takes a couple well aimed Bow shots to exterminate them all. The fact that they wear no armor and only wield a Cutlass. We need Barbaric Nords with Big fur pelts on them with a Axe bigger than you.
