[Steam user] [DLC #1] Game crashes after being gassed in BoS

Post » Mon Dec 28, 2009 7:03 am

Hi,

I'm a Steam user and am currently having problems with my game. Whenever I enter the BoS bunker and get gassed my game crashes while loading the content. I walk into the bunker, and to the room where you get gassed, fall to the ground, get four notivication that my followers have returned to their towns and that I lost their perks and then the loading screen pops up. During the loading screen my whole game crashes back to Windows.

When I try to check the integrity of my game cache it says there's one file that is corrupt and it'll download that file (though it's probably a small file because it finishes instant). When I run the check again it says my files are ok. Then when I run the game again to see if it works it's still broken and the cycle of checking begins again (one file corrupt, next check all is fine). I've tried restarting Steam several times with and without the integrity check but this didn't help.

File sizes:
DeadMoney - Main.bsa - 350.477 kB
DeadMoney - Sounds.bsa - 102.635 kB
DeadMoney.esm - 6.128 kB
DEADMONEY.NAM - 1 kB (<-- my guess this is the file that's causing my problem.)

Fallout - Meshes.bsa - 1.036.743 kB\
Fallout - Misc.bsa - 1.861 kB
Fallout - Sound.bsa - 831.041 kB
Fallout - Textures.bsa - 1.168.718 kB
Fallout - Textures2.bsa - 938.721 kB
Fallout - Voices1.bsa - 1.564.778 kB
FalloutNV.esm - 239.926 kB

Hope this detailed post helps.

I had the same issue, tried validating, tried restarting steam, no dice. I fixed it by dropping all my weapons and armor before triggering the event. Dropped it all in my house. Try that and see if it works.

What worked for me was leaving my companions outside. I'm not sure why but whenever I bring boone and rex in it crashes after being gased.

Tried both your idea's. Let my companions return to 38 and tried going in, crashed. Then left all my weapons and armor in my room at 38, did bring my bullets and all other items though. But I still crashed.

That is bizarre. The only other thing I can think of is reinstalling New Vegas (backup your saved games). Or just try redownloadign Dead Money.

Tried the reinstall of New Vegas already. Also deleted all the Blood Money files and checked for corrupted files after so it did redownload those too. Hope Steam fixed the problem this evening. Trying as we speak.

I've tried entering the place with another save a few levels before and it worked. Must be something in my inventory then but I'm not sure what.

I'm having the same problem. Tried everything.
I tried unchecking all Mods
Re-starting Steam
Dropping all my gear off in a footlocker
Entering with no companions
Tried a different load order which F**ked up my game, now wont even go past 1st Load screen.

How do you re-install FNV and the DLC?
I think that's what I'm gonna have to do and just start over.

I'm in the same case as you. I also tried every method explained here :
- updated the driver
- tried without any mod
- dropped every item
- fired every companion
and it still doesn't work. So I :
- checked my cache : everytime, it tells me that 1 file is corrupted and that it downloads it ; it fails every time.
- reinstalled the game and the dlc : didn't change anything.

If re-installing works for you, please tell ! You can do so by selecting "delete local content", after a right-click on Fallout in your games menu.

Also, Dead Money screwed my "regular" game : I don't know why, but I can't enter the Silver Rush anymore. Before the DLC, no problems. Now, CTD everytime. The worst thing is, I can't even remove the DLC.

Well, double post but I think it's wort it :
My problem came from a texture or animation conflict. I didn't find which mod was the culprit, but I put "Archive invalidation" back in place, and now the DLC, and the Van Graffs, don't give a CTD. Everything works fine. Maybe you have the same problem.

For me, the crash happens during the loading screen that follows the slide show that plays after my character gets gassed. I've tried removing quest items, firing companions, making a new character and warping straight to the bunker without doing any other quests, disabling NVSE...nothing works. I might try backing up my current install and then trying a fresh one, but I really don't see why one needs to do this whole song and dance just to get one piece of DLC to work properly.

Mind you, can't say I'm surprised...Fallout 3's DLC had plenty of issues of its own (ESPECIALLY The Pitt...quite sad that only people who legitimately purchased it had their save files messed up), and this time around we have Obsidian thrown into the mix. >_>

I also had this problem, however, I think I found a way to solve it!

Now, instead of walking towards the radio and being gassed, open the console (~) and insert the following code:
coc NVDLC01fountain

This will teleport you to the Sierra Madre Villa where Dead Money begins, and from there on it should work as advertised!

Using this trick has solved the problem for me. I have been playing for an hour and have encountered no problems as of yet.

However, this has the side-effect that you will miss the opening cinematic of Dead Money and, possibly, that the "Sierra Madre Grand Opening!" quest can not be completed.

Note: I would still recommend putting everything you have in the container and sending your companions home as this is the way Dead Money is supposed to be played.

I had exactly the same problem, which I solved by re-enabling "Archive Invalidation" (manually or with FOMM, both works). Your crash comes from a changed animation or something like that, and isn't mod-dependent (it's something in your "data" directory). Enabling AA again allows the game to override those problematic files, and here you go ! You even can disable AA again after you get in Sierra Madre.

DayBay, I have the same problem, I have tried everything to no avail, Did not have any problems prior to trying to play Dead Money.

Hopefully there will be a patch to fix this, very frustrating to say the least.

Anymore suggestions excluding the ones already posted. Thanks

Bottom line is, if you can play FNV for 200 hours, you should be able to paly Dead Money...boo to Bethesda Software!

I have tried everything to get to the radio siganl, naked, no companions, no stash, no nothing!

[censored]!!

Screen says all companions and perks are gone, screen goes black, and then crashes! For the 25th time! I'd like my money for Dead Money back...LOL I'LL hold my breath
