What about Cheat-Protection?

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 9:50 pm

I can't find any Topic for this Question.
Wich Cheat-Protection will be running for Brink?

IMHO are the Mainstream Cheatprotectors Punkbuster and Vac crappy [censored].
I hope for a new Kind of Protection. What about GM's? Can the Community help with that?
I really dream about a nearby cheatfree shooter. for that, i would pay 10$ each month. or a really high price to buy the game.

I'm just tired to see many games die, becaus of the cheater-influence :(

it's using steam, so i expect it to use VAC
but it'll be using dedicated servers i think, so kicking and banning should be in aswell

this topic was brought up in the very beginning of the forums, although the question was somewhat different. "Since the MP and SP files will be based in the same place, how will consoles protect from cheating?" truth is, i have no clue, and i dont think it matters unless they're lag switching...all the good unlocks are there from the beginning, so it doesnt matter if they level-hack.

on pc they can wallhack, wich is amazingly annoying, and when an aimbot is used aswell, let me tell you i've seen bots on mw2, and the good bots don't let you get near them, you'd have to have a lucky grenade throw from behind a house to take one of those out.

when there's stuff like that out, you want a good anti-cheat protector on your game

With any luck there will be a strong PC community. Groups will have several servers and gather up trustworthy people to have a ref on at all times. Then they will have trusted players who can help the refs. Maybe someone is cheating on one of their servers, the trusted player can notify the ref to switch servers and check it out. The cheater gets banned and the ref can stay or go back to the other server the group runs. I saw this sort of thing in Wolf ET but there weren't so many servers since they could do 32v32 matches on some. So even if the game is hacked to hell after several months, the good server communities will keep active ban lists and have good control over it.

True, if Punkbuster failed at detecting a cheater, an admin probably banned him right away.
However, admins make decisions based on what they see, which could be kind off tricky: Sometimes it's not completely clear if he's cheating or not and admins can make the wrong decisions.

the problem is the difference between skill and bot's.
lot of players cry "HAAAAXX" because they get owned many times by a good skilled player.
there must be an evidence, to ban an obvious cheater. but what is a good evidence?
when you see a guy swiching his gun unreal between his opponents. its 99% a bot. but even not evey time. lags produce sometimes really strange situations... and what about wallhacks? "huh, this guy always see me first, goddammit..." in a figt is it such a big advance, when you see your opponent, before he does. and yea, you cant see his wallhack, if he use any.
the anti-cheat tools need the codes of the hacks, to ban guys wich use them. but its expensive to buy them all, and anyway bad to support the cheat-programmers, by buying their cheats :P

i think, nobody should underrate the problem, wich cheaters bring.
