Adamantine Travels

From the Journal of Alenwe Direnni, apprentice to Otharn, Court Wizard of the Direnni, who vanished for months while on an important mission for House Direnni. While the Psijiic Order confiscated most of his things when he returned, including Alenwe himself, they left behind this journal, as well as a few rubbings. He is presumed to have vanished along with the Psijiics:

Sixth of First Seed:

Yesterday was the Festival of Xarxes. I have a horrible hangover, so did fate grant me a peaceful morning for me to recuperate? No. Apparently Rhonan wants us to go into an excursion into the depths of the tower. Far be it from me to question the Castellan, but couldn't he have set this on a better day? My master is displeased too. Apparently he thinks that better magic experts would be needed. Rhonan insisted though. I am not in the mood for shouting and arguments. What am I, a Nord?

Finally, we have reached the lowest sublevel. Some miners are here too. Apparently we are going to penetrate into the central Adamatine spire, and that way we can explore the central tower. They're using special picks, usually used to mine ebony. And yet it is still taking forever to make a hole. Apparently they found it was hollow, so we ain't gonna just tunnel through it, but still, they are definitely thick. By Arkay, this is taking precious time I could spend on studies. A once in a lifetime opportunity to explore the oldest place in Tamriel, and it took half an hour before they could make a small hole into the chamber.

We've finally made a door. Man, this place is huge. First floor has nothing on it, but a huge spiral staircase. No light in here, but thankfully Otharn took the liberty of teaching me Night-eye. Too bad we have to lug around all these supplies, and he forgot to teach me feather. Well, time to climb up, I guess.

These stairs never end, do they? Have to camp out on them, but thankfully they are as wide as a house. Otharn and I practised some conjuration. Summoned my first Clannfear. Poor bugger accidentally fell off the stairs. That's the thing about the Daedra, despite being immortals superior to us in most ways some are too stupid to not stand near edges of tall objects.

Seventh of First Seed:

Woke up, climbed some more, Finally reached the second level. By Syrabane.

Elder Scrolls. Thousands of them. The entire wall lined with their cases.

Otharn is calling everyone important he knows with that weird Dreamsleeve thing. Tried that once, just got scrambled messages and headaches. Direnni could sell them all to the empire, and become rich enough to buy High Rock. They'd become so rich they could buy full daedric armour for all of their soldiers and then conquer the EmpirE. They'd become so rich, Rhonan would end up living in so much luxury Sanguine would be jealous. Anyway, enough of that stuff.

After pocketing as many Scrolls as I can (Those things have like no weight at all), we marched upwards. I am really bored of stairs, I tell you.

Third level. The walls are carved with murals. Otharn recognises some as similar to the ones in Crystal Tower, minus all the breakage of course. Others are pretty mysterious. These things are so ornate, they are beyond my ability to describe. Had to tear out my journal pages to make rubbings of them. If anyone reads this journal. this will explain why half of the pages were missing. I am eager to see what more relics I can find in this place.

Otharn tried to date the scrolls I took. I thought using magical dating on them would make them explode or something. However, he has gotten an age. Not exact because of the non-linear nature of Mundus, but the Scrolls predate Ada-Mantia by thousands of years! Probably even Mundus as well! A fascinating insight to the nature of the Elder Scrolls.

I think I saw someone else in the tower, gold looking. Must've been a trick of the eye.

Camping and training again. Is it just me, or is this place bigger than Direnni Tower? That can't be right. But it's taking longer to traverse it that it took to come to the basemant.

Eighth of First Seed:

Well, my suspicions were proved correct. We climbed up, only to reach a room that would be too big to fit into the Direnni Tower, let alone the Adamantine core. Space has no meaning here. This chamber is filled with weird gizmos. Looks like what the Dwemer would make if instead of steam and brass, they had to use light and.... some weird coloured metals I can't identify. everything's covered in runes, but they constantly shift unless you concentrate on them. Spent a while staring at some gibberish until for a moment it looked like an i, but with a crown thingy instead of a little dot above it. But then I was distracted by seeing someone out of the corner of my eye, and it fell apart. I keep seeing glimpses of that man. Wonder why he doesn't just come up to us to say hello.

Climbed up further. All the rooms we found were even bigger than the last, and each one of them was filled with more objects too big to carry and too complex to meaningfully interact with. Up to the sixth room now, and camping for the night. I got a clearer look at that man. The gold is armour.

Ninth of First Seed:

Damnit. Othorn left me behind. His curiosity was greater than his desire to sleep. I tore the apologizing note explaining his abscence in half, and started climbing, calling out his name.

Couldn't find him anywhere. Thoroughly searched next two floors, but he was nowhere to be seen. Camping out tonight. I miss him. An entire day with just myself and a golden knight, who no matter how much I try I cannot catch. I tried calling for him every time I saw him, but he didn't respond. I tried running after him, but he vanishes when I am not looking. I need company. I don't care who it is, I don't want to be alone here!

???????

Lost track of time in this place. I think I'm going mad with isolation. It's been several days since master went missing. Saw Sir Gold around. Noticed he had a shield and a bow. Why doesn't he have a sword? Why is he here? Why doesn't he answer me?

More and more levels. Running out of supplies, and my food packs are now stuffed with whatever trinkets I can find in this place. I've got to say, this place has some nice stuff. Wouldn't mind living here, so long as I have some company. I am so lonely, I summon scamps just to talk to them. Conjuration is the only thing that keeps me sane.

Been a while since I've updated this journal. Most of my time here wasn't interesting enough to put to paper. But today, I found him. Found master. Dead. Fell off the stairs. I don't think he tripped, the stairs aren't slippery enough, there was nothing on them and Otharn was always agile. He must've been pushed, or startled. I took his supplies. Read his notes. Nothing in them that I haven't written down before. Climbing up. Higher and higher.

???????

The light! I had to stop using Night-eye. Now I see it. Othorn was blinded, and thus was unable to navigate the steps. Thankfully I cancelled it before my eyes were burnt out. The light makes it almost impossible to see, but I can't find any more steps. I've done it. I have arrived at the top. I see the golden man, but I see him as both dragon and knight. The spirit of Auri-El still haunts this tower, the last remains from his ascension! I ask him a thousand things, and he reveals to me a thousand truths. Finally! My journey has ended. Home! Yes, HOME!

The rest of this work is written in unidentifiable runes, until it ends at torn out pages.
