SMART and combat

Post » Wed Dec 30, 2009 10:10 am

Will it be possible to execute attacks at the same moments you are using SMART moves? For example could you fire a pistol as you vaulted over a table or off a wall? Throw a grenade while mantling? Cut a hamstrink with a knife while break sliding past someone?

I hope you put more melee in the game.

Thats a fairly good question. You might be able to throw a grenade right after complete a vault. I don't think you can fire while using smart since it's like running.

BUt Why would you want more melee? For a third person shooter melee would be fine but a first person seems a bit pointless.

SMART Doesn't take control over you character, you are free to shoot and cancel the SMART whenever you like to.

Might be some moves that you might require 2 hands for, like climbing a wall which might render you unable to shoot.

Because, and I may be way out in left field with this one, but the freedom of movement makes me think of melee more. I like the idea of being fast on my feet and able to get around quickly, hit in run melee attacks seem like they would be a lot of fun. Think of the "freezer room" scene in Live Free or Die Hard where Bruce says to Cyril "hold still you little hamster". Bruce had the gun but couldnt touch Cyril cause of his crazy parkour.

That was cool, but you weren't looking through the eyes of Bruce or the hamster. You were watching it from a third person perspective. Uncharted 2 does good with shooting and melee attacks.

You can shoot while sliding and probably also while wallhopping. As long as you use only one hand. I think this goes for melee as well.
Ofcourse, like stated before, you can also stop the animation while performing it, so that you keep control over your character at all times.
Then there's the slide, which will also knock people down if you hit them with it. (I read it somewhere in a Pax hands-on)

Funny I used that clip in how a light should play.

SMART isn't a canned animation so you should be able to do most actions: shooting, melee, throw grenades while using it.

we know we can shoot aslong as we have a free hand while using smart, so i expect a grenade or melee attack should work aswell under the same condition

You can execute any action as long as you have enough free hands to do it, so shooting, nading, tossing syringes, etc. can be done, what I want to know is if you can buff/disguise while smarting.

No for some strange reason SMART knocks your disguise off.

Just kidding.

Oh noes! My ninja skills are fail!

I hope you can punch and shoot while vaulting. One thing I hated about Mirror's Edge was that the guns slowed you down that much. You should be able to at least jog while holding an SMG if you can sprint at 25 KPH while vaulting over tables normally...

So along these same lines, do we know or have we been told exactly how many possible SMART moves there are?

I was just remembering how much I loved Mirrors Edge but also how much I had wished it had everything it had plus a lot more guns.

Vaulting, sliding, mantling, walhopping, and some more, can't remember them all :)

tic-tacing?

Heard you can tic-tac to wall grab if you got the skillz, devs say some crazy stuff like that is possible but you definitely wont be doing those moves as soon as you pick the game up.
