Morrowind Enhanced

Post » Wed Dec 30, 2009 4:34 am

Hey, I was just reading the readme for MWE and do I really need this utility? It's not a mod. It says that it's required to run other mods, such as these: http://www.freewebs.com/aerelorn/

But if I'm not planning on using any of those mods in that URL, then do I even need to have Morrowind Enhanced installed on my computer? Is that all it's good for?

No.

Correct, Morrowind Enhanced is only required if you want to use MWE specific mods. There's no benefit to running the exe by itself, nor loading the MWE_Base.esp without a MWE mod - their only functions are to inject, interpret and support the extended scripting functions utilized by MWE mods.

[edit] typo.

lol okay thanks. It was kind of annoying having to start MW via MWE. But I'm sure I'll be having to start MW via MGE so I'd better get used to starting the game via some other program.
But yeah, I'll just delete it then.

Actually you start MW just as you normally would when using MGE - its dlls attach to the MW process automatically via directx and do their work behind the scenes without any need for an additional launcher.

FYI: some installations will need to run MW directly from the Morrowind.exe to recognize MGE's dlls, but first try starting MW normally thru the Morrowind Launcher - if MGE also loads then you're good to go. ;)

It's not that bad once you get used to it. Nowadays I use so many Oblivion mods that require OBSE that I hardly know how to start Oblivion any other way anymore, lol. I keep the OBSE icon in the Quick Launch area of my task bar and it starts Oblivion just as fast and easily as the Launcher itself.

It's no more difficult, really, than starting MWSE and launching Morrowind from there. Just one more step. What makes a difference is if you find the mods it enables useful.
