Reinstall Question

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:46 am

My DVD drive recently crapped out, and during the period between when I got a new one I downloaded a no dvd crack. Due to the amount of mods Im running, this caused the game to CTD for some reason.

Now that I have a new drive, if I uninstall and reinstall, will that delete my mods/patches etc? I really hope not! Thanks!

well, it won't, for example if you reinstall, then run wrye bash you'll still see all your mods ticked and everything, only the game itself is reinstalled. however if any of your mods have overwritten the vanilla files then i hope you made backups, coz otherwise your reinstall will override those mod files (for example a texture) and your mod becomes essentially useless in that area, where it's meant to use its own texture. if you have all your mods then it's better to just uninstall everything and make a fresh install, that way less problems can occur (especially texture based mods) and it's much simpler, albeit a little longer to do.

So QTP3 is gonna be out the window then? Ouch, took me forever to DL on my connection. Never made a backup either. Thanks for the help though.

yeah qtp3 definitely lol, you could still try to just reinstall the game, i mean, it won't mess up your game, just that if after you reinstalled and you see purple places, or textures that reverted to the original vanilla version, then that just means you gotta reinstall qtp3 again (re overwriting textures etc), so redownloading yes :P at least you don't have problems with the game itself...

OR just an idea, i'm not completely sure on this, but maybe it's possible to backup your data folders, and after resinstall just overwrite the new folders with the backup ones. your textures will be there, and your esp will be there..so it should run ok. i'm not 100% sure though.
