Where were you when the bombs fell?

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 10:39 pm

Pretty simple, list your country and nearest city (please no addresses, i couldn't care less) and say what you were doing, where you were and whether you would survive when the bombs fell. (note: if you were in the fallout timeline, specifically 2077) (you can decide how old you are in the fallout timeline btw, just thought it would be more fun ^_^)
*note: everything has to be at-least LOOSELY related to canon.
e.g. of ^: since the fate/well-being of Australia is not clearly defined in canon, I had fun in making up details ^_^ , but stuck to the lore as there is no evidence to suggest that other countries did not have vaults and hell, if they have laser rifles/pistols/shotguns, who says someone didn't find a way to consume geothermal energy.
**note: do not completely disregard canon.

Australia, Melbourne.
Watching propaganda on TV writing down how many inconsistencies there were, what they were and how full of crap the poly was, in the Vault that I designed when I was 23 while my wife is watching her soap and the kids are studying algebra, not realizing that in contrast to their later years is child's play. The vault would have a hydroponics lab for growing vegetables, fruit and for making the air fresher than just an air purifier/recycler, a gym for keeping fit while staying alive from the presumably dangerous and toxic exterior (from our proximity to a major city) (the equipment i.e. treadmills generated some power and the rest was derived from solar panels that would routinely reveal themselves at intervals during the day and slight amounts of geothermal energy being extracted) and a separate habitat (which was extremely hard to build and coax grass to grow) in which 5 cows would reside providing us with milk, and when necessary, meat.

Either that or I would be enlisted in the elite of Australia's armed forces and be assigned to a top secret vault that has the core mission of securing key areas within Australia once radiation has safely dispersed, allowing resettlement of our great country by the greatest minds, the most earnest citizens and the most hardy soldiers (and their immediate families) of Australia.

And I suggest, have fun with creating your story, just keep it reasonable, for example  no zombies/aliens please -__-

If right now was 2077, I would be enjoying a nice hot sunny July Day. War takes place October 23,2077 :D.

I get the point of this thread and it's a good question. From what we know of the war, it was a surprise and some people did not get into the Vaults or had time to take shelter. America was winning the war against China, by that they were invading mainland China. So it's not like we had much of a warning. I live in Canada but north of a major city, so I guess I would be died .

Maybe I would have built a bomb shelter south of Sudbury Ontario, so I will go with that. I would be in a bomb shelter.

Damn... It was said the russian ICBMs would do a lot of collateral damage due to their inferior targeting systems and thus relying on MIRVing to hit something. If the Fallout Chinese are similar, living in the Philadelphia area will not be a blessing. Look what happen to Pittsburg.

Let's say I'm not actually 123 years old when the bombs fall. It's a war economy so I'm probably working with a good wage and home in a 50s lifestyle. More than likely then I also have a family. There's a lot of tension with the annexation of Canada and the Alaska incident. Consitering how those Vaults are being pushed the government must know something. Problem is those Vaults are in very short supply and already taken. I wouldn't be close enough to Philadelphia to get into public bomb shelters or just down in the subway tunnels and bomb shelters in schools and government buildings would be PACKED.

The game doesn't mention it but in our real world people were building bomb shelters in thier back yards. That may be where the majority of wastelanders rose from. Many others, as my family did back when Kennedy was dealing with the Bay of Pigs, would have constructed and regularly stocked basemants. I would say that's what I would be doing. We see in the game many buildings are blown ragged or flat rather than burned to the ground and Washington was definately a Ground Zero. We quite often explore game basemants too. That means, if I plan correctly, I could weather the initial holocaust and emerge when the gieger counter cools or the food and toilet paper gets low (Yes, my father bought crates of it!). If I have survival instincts and skills I can emerge and use what very little is left to survive esentially bombed back to the stone age. Hundreds of thousands of people will emerge from shelters too and most will die. The fraction of a percent that have the guts and savy to live in the worst conditions will have decendents 200 years later. I know some will be my great grandkids.

Depending on the circumstances, I'd either be on the front line fighting with a Marine unit against Chinese Reds; or I'd be sitting at my place watching the Golden Gate Bridge collapse and crumble into the water? After the dust settled, and I was still alive in SF, I'd probably be living amongst the people who create the Shi.

Getting a sponge bath from one of the more attractive old folk's home nurses.

I mean, what's the point of living to 91 if you can't enjoy yourself? ;)

If this year was 2077. I'd live far enough from any 'important' city worth bombing, unless Memphis TN, which is about 30 or so miles away is to close, I'd likely be a survivor. What I did before the war wouldnt matter. Al lthat would matter is I find a place to turn into a haven for my fellow survivors.

Nearest City is London, about 70 Miles away, so I'd probably die in the explosion. In the event that I survive, I'd try to make my way to the coast and maybe check out the USA

Working a cushy skilled trades job at Chrylus Warren Stamping, earning a big fat paycheck because of the war economy and the fact that even with civil unrest, food riots, etc., people still drop $199,000 for a Corvega 2-seater. Then bright flashes come from the Northeast around Selfridge ANGB and to the south from Detroit. I don't have the good fortune to be at a ground zero or in the heat blast sphere of a warhead. I would probably end up puking my guts out with rad sickness and dying because the mutated FEV from Mariposa didn't have time to reach Michigan yet, so no chance of ghoulification.

2077; I'd either be 80+ years old or dead by then, and my weak elderly/dead body wouldn't take the stress the effort of not dieing in a nuclear war would inflict.

I live approx. 8 clicks from Perth, Australia commonly known as the most isolated city in the world. We would be the last place people would care about bombing so we had fair warning before the bombs hit a large portion of the population either went to shelter or got the hell outta town, I grabbed my family and having seen the deteriorating circumstance of the world had been prepared. I had a large plot of land in the middle of the Simpson desert that I had bought thanks to the second resource boom of metals as well as radioactive materials. We drove for days my wife constantly asking where we were going, how long it would take and apologizing to my 8 year old daughter for forgetting her teddy bear in the rush. We had picked up a few followers, of corse I didn't trust any of them and kept my revolver on me at all times. When we got to my settlement my wife was amazed at what I had been secretly building for her, an oasis pure and simple, a large lake with ample accommodation for the extras we picked up and grain stores for farming. I new it wouldn't last for ever but at least we had a chance....

Any age you say?

Well let's see...October 2077...where would...oh, right. Oct 23rd, 2077...I was watching the Korean F1 race when the bombs fell. With air traffic ceasing to exist overnight I have no way to get to Vaule 125, located just east of Nashville, TN. Since Nashville has the intersection of three of the major interstates in the Southeast, it's going to be a fairly high priority target and probably wouldn't exist anymore even if I could fly out there. Thusly, I'm stuck in South Korea, with the world literally ending around me, while at an F1 race. Oh well at least I get a good show!

I would be screwed, at whatever age i was at, since i live in Moscow. Oh wait, i wouldn't be dead....cause we have massive vaults all over the place! The Moscow metro system was built as a regular public transport service, but the tunnels are deep enough to resist all nuclear bombs and radiation. Unless you roll a nuke into there, my chances of survival are pretty good! Stalin built them before the cold war. So a .......see you in 67 years! Oh wait , you'd be dead!

"This is great comrades! We all have taken shelter in our glorious metro system and sealed ourselves in as the ground rumbles above. There are miles of tunnels packed with people by the millions! There are rest rooms with toilets and running water from the water authority run above.. us and over there is a coffee stand.. for.. food...."

Living eight miles from a primary target? Wait.. do bombs drop in Europe? Prolly, with my luck :(

Anyway, most likely dead.

And if not, I'm staying right here on my island :)

Going to the closest Coca cola (Nuka Cola) factory and ask for all the bottle-caps they got for all the money I got. Won't need it after the event. :)

in the capital wasteland pre-war money is worth 10 caps(depending on your bartering skill) ... so i think you should keep your money.

I live near Seattle, Washington. When the bombs fall I'll flee to the waterfront and steal a boat. There are boatloads (bad pun) there and Puget Sound leads to the Pacific Ocean. So I would then set sail and seek refuge in Japan, as in their 1950's view of the world, they will have super advanced technology and I think they could outsmart a couple of nukes.

If it were 2077, i think i would be getting ready with trusted people after hearing word of the attack, i live in Vancouver, washington. I am more then sure i would survive the bombs, and this place is hardly relevant to americans, let alone the chinese, so im sure this place would end up just gettine pretty radiated, and my first place for shelter after the bombs would probably the country store (place has so much stuff) and then i would head off to seaside with my fellow survivers, and make a town, or settlement

Oct 23 2077

Dallas, Tx.
With all the Military bases and research centers in Texas we got hit hard.
Being halfway in between the east and west coast we only had a single hour to enter the vaults. But also still maintaining that 50's cowboy spirit most folks that had their own land built their own bunkers enabling Texas to have a higher then normal survival rate. Sadly with Texas being in the center of the gulf streams they suffered worse fallout then most other areas of the country producing more ghouls than standard humans. The leaders of the remaining humans led by the Texas Rangers decided to move the remaining humans north eventually settling in what was formerly known as Oregon, eventually becoming know as the Desert Rangers. At the time of the great war I was still drunk and thought it was cool for 1.8 secs......
