Glarthir!

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:53 am

I just completed Glarthir's quest and let me tell you it is a PITA if you have vampirism. did anyone else have a similar experience?

The first two "stakeouts" were bad enough, but for the third he asked me to follow Davide Surilie ALL DAY!

WTH, I was sure he was up to something, I thought there was going to be a plot twist because it would have been so easy to assume Glarthir was simply paranoid (as in the name of this quest). I watched Davide digging in his freaking field with a rake from 9am to 1pm, followed him home for lunch, and then back to more digging until 8PM. The whole time I'm casting Restore Health spells like crazy because i'm at 100% vampirism and the sun is very bad for me.

I noticed when he passed by the Shepherd on his way from his home to his fields, Davide had a very cryptic exchange with him, something in the vein of:
- "I see you like cheese."
- "Two wheels of cheese are best this time of year."

This really seemed like some kind of secret communication about the conspiracy, forcing me to continue watching the guy rake his damned fields.

Bravo, Bethesda developers, for managing to infect me with Glarthir's paranoia!

Spoiler
In the end I lied and said Davide was the ringleader, and Glarthir paid me 1000 caps to whack the poor basterd. Much better pay than any gigs from the Dark Brotherhood! :twirl:

I usually leave him alone, and don't do his quest. This was fun for one of my characters who lived in Skingrad, Glarthir all running over all the time and loud whispering. And then freaking out when I blow off the meeting with him. :foodndrink:

You can just go wait 24 hours in between meetings, and just make up the result, he won't know the difference. Thats what I do when I bother with the quest.

I have to admit, overall it was fun to let him draw me into his crazy world.

I've always ignored him with previous characters and when I actually listed to him he is a pretty compelling and funny NPC.

(I always turn off all the dialogue subtitles so I can enjoy the full impact of the voice acting.)

Yeah, I just finished this quest myself, and was worried that I missed something. I thought for sure they wouldn't make you follow people around all day for no reason. I don't know how many times I thought to myself "I should just turn his crazy ass in" as I was watching someone plow a field or stand motionless in the middle of a room somewhere.

I typically always turn him in when he asks me to kill them. It's fun watching him go mad and get slaughtered by the guards. What's ridiculous, however, is that when the above happens the guard turns to you and says.. "Glarthir was found dead.. it seems somebody got tired of his nonsense and did him in.." or something that effect. I'm always sitting there like "You were the on who killed him and it was because he went mad!" :P

before reloading an earlier saved game, I had a bit of fun when a huge battle broke out between

the Surilie Brothers + all the town guards in Skingrad

vs

Glarthir + my summoned Xivlai + myself

(Unfortunately I was in the middle of the Knights of the Nine quest and I had to either reload a previous save or do the whole pilgrimage to all the wayshrines yet again. Somehow when restarted and I killed Davide quietly and quickly, my infamy didn't go up.)

Like his house lots of books all around together with crazy notes, he only miss a tinfoil hat. A helmet would probably work just as well.
Guess you can reverse pickpocket a permabound summoned daeric helm on him it should work even better and look much crazier.
