I thought enslaving raiders would be harmless.

I've been enslaving a few raiders just as a means to prevent them from respawning (which I hate). I only enslaved one of the VIPs that you're told to do in order to enter Paradise Falls.

My problem is I'm apparently now I known slaver. I ran into some wastelanders who attacked me saying "There's the slaver bastard, kill him." I hate this. I like to be a goody-goody (I have positive karma). I release slaves when I find them in the wastes and kill the slavers.

So my question is am I now permanently marked as a slaver or if I stop will it go away? Or if I destroy Paradise Falls will it go away? I don't really want to do that because it's the only functioning town in out in the wastes and there's a quest there, and quests are too rare and precious to not do. But I will do it if it's the only way.

Does anyone know for sure, or if there's anything else I can do?

Many thanks.

Judging by what the wiki says, you've triggered a random encounter because you've used the mesmotron in the past. The Wiki says this encounter is repeatable, so it's possible it will happen again, but only in random encounter locations, and since these locations are only triggered the first time you reach that area, eventually you won't have any more of these encounters. It doesn't look like there is any way to change your status. You've enslaved someone and that action will be remembered forever. You can't change the past. If you just want to improve karma though, donate to the church or give the beggars water.

People yell at you? It has never happened to me.
But if your only reason to enslave raiders is because you don't like them to respawn, maybe you should set them free, instead of sending them to Paradise Falls. They won't dissapear, but they will become friendly to your character permanently. Even if they are killed they will respawn as friendly. I do this alot in places where I live (Evergreen Mill for example, is now my stronghold with my own army (and my own personal raider-hoker)).
Maybe this will make you feel better.

I'll give that a try. Cheers pal.

Do you get the collar back if you release them too? That would save trapsing all the way back to Paradise Falls to get a new one.

Thanks veryone.

One question; how do you handle multiple raiders? Sometimes one will wander off by himself, but what about when there's more and they're all shooting at you? Do you just shoot them all but one? And then when you do mez one guy don't the others kill him? And when he respawns just keep killing him?

You can either take the hits from the others while you're mezzing one Raider or you can kill all of his buddies and then mezz and release him. Come back in three days after they've respawned and you can mezz and release another one. I don't think his former buddies will kill him but I could be mistaken. It's been quite some time since I've mezz-friended people.

Thanks. I've found I'm only able to mez people if I sneak attack them. Once they've started shooting at me I can't mez them no matter how many times I hit them. The wiki says it's a 50-50 chance, but it seems to be much harder.

Thanks again.
