Is atronach any good ?

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 8:44 pm

I am currently making a cruseder style character, who is a male high elf. He will be equiped with the crusader gear, but what starsign would be best ? I am probabally going to pick
armourer
blade
block
marksman
restoration
alchemy (health potions)
illusion (light for caves dont like torches.)

What skills would be best for a crusader character ? And what starsign ?

The Atronach is a tricky sign but very versatile. A character like this will really benefit from the magicka absorption ability and since you won't be relying to much on spells the fact that you don't regenerate magicka won't be so much of a hindrance. A pure mage is at risk since they need to use magicka for spells but may not be fighting an enemy lobbing spells at them so they don't have the opportunity to replenish without resorting to potions - although these sorts of characters can still be fun to play :)

I wouldn't pick Alchemy or Illusion as Majors because you will level up too fast. Atronarch is perfect for a high elf because if they reach 100% Spell Absorbtion they will lose their weaknesses to Fire, Ice, and Lighting. I would replace Alchemy and Illusion with Light or Heavy Armor whichever armor your going to use and the last skill should be either Conjuration or something else but not Alchemy or Illusion.

The Atronarch is a lot of Hard Work keeping the magic regenerated but it will make your High Elf powerful if you bump up the Spell Absorbtion.

I love the Atronach sign. But if this is your first or one of your first characters, it might be tricky. Alot of people get annoyed by the lack of Magicka Regenearation. It's not really a problem, except at lower levels I think, if you know a bit about the game. But if you're concerned I'd recommend taking the Mage over Atronach. Later on when you want a different type of character, maybe try an Atronach -- it can change the way you play the game.

Those skills are very good, in my opinion. However, even if you use Alchemy alog, I'd consider moving it to a minor. Maybe replace with something like Mysticism. Because alchemy as a major can cause your character to level too quickly.

Note that you can also make Light potions for caves. Or wear enchantments for caves. But Illusion can be very fun and useful.

True but my issue is I dont find that many spell casters in the game, and I would use restoration quite a bit to heal and illusion to light caves. Also how would I train the skill ? I just spammed my spell as I was walking, but now I cant do that to increase my skill with it.

I could enchant some armour with sigil stones, and use spell breaker. Never really understood the leveling system, so I just stop sleeping eventually, becaus it looks stupid everyone in daedric armour. So dont know what you mean about leveling too fast.

I have played the game before, just always went with an assasin class, so trying something different. I suppose I could drop illusion for light enchanted objects, but I doubt they are as effective and probabally a smaller radius. Nver really enchanted much other than using a chameleon sigil stone.

If you ask me, it's a waste.

However if you ask ZakariusSvedlin, he'd say it's the best thing since sliced bread.

It all depends on you..

The Atronach is a great birthsign, but it really depends on your character. If your crusader is going to be casting spells heavily, I'd advise you against the Atronach. It's the best birthsign for purely melee-based characters who don't rely on magic to win fights. That way you aren't gimped by not having magicka regen and you have a good start to 100% immunity to magic early on in the game. You can play an Atronach mage, but it's a lot more difficult than a mage of a different birthsign due to the magicka regen gimp. You'd need to really concentrate on getting a large enough mana pool to be efficient in spellcasting. For a mage, I wouldn't pick the Atronach.

As for Alchemy as a major skill, no no no no no. I'd never put that, even if I did use the skill heavily - especially if I used the skill heavily, actually. All my characters are masters in Alchemy, but none of them have it as a major skill due to the fact that it levels like Chuck Norris on steroids. :P Not a pretty picture if you're trying to level at all efficiently. Alchemy is one of the most useful skills in the game, hands down, but don't make it a major skill unless you don't want to use it or you want to run the risk of ending up with a severely underpowered character. Alchemy levels so fast that it'll be your first Master skill in no time, if you use it. Making it a major isn't worth it, in my opinion.

Illusion also levels pretty fast, but I've personally had no problems with Illusion as a major skill. I've heard of some people who've had some though, so I would rethink that a bit if I were you, even though I can personally testify that Illusion is fine as a major skill.

Other than that, looks like a pretty good build to me. :)

If you cast Magic heavily and you have the Atronach I have a few recommendations. At low levels you're going to definitely want to collect potions. Buy potions anytime you're in town. Magicka Restore Potions, Heal Potions, etc. Second, start practicing Alchemy. Don't put it as a major but definitely use Alchemy. Later when you get it up there you can have Magicka restore potions that regenerate Magicka up to 1872 points! Atronach or not this means that you have unlimited Magicka pretty much. If you prepare before any fight, even if you're not fighting enemy spell casters, it's not really an issue.

Also by not having Alchemy as a Major its easier to get +5's in INT.

Atronach is very powerful however I find the inability to regenerate magic annoying and develop my character in the wrong way because I get a mage who is reluctant to cast spells as in I use my sword to kill that rat so I don’t have to waste magic I might need later.
Heavy combat is no issue, here you need potions anyway, drink a self made one at start of combat. It the killing rats, healing fall damage and casting some spells just for training who is hardest.
If you overcome this you get a character that is very strong against mages. And yes if you use little magic the lack of regeneration is no problem.

I agree with Zaria that it depends on your character.

I find it suits a strong character that is willing to get up close and trade blows/spells with his foes; I find it does not suit a character that is afraid to get hit, rarely gets hit and fights with a 'don't touch me' style. To step into spells or enchanted weapons or hug wills-o-the-wisp is quite against the style of this type of character.

I also find that my atronach characters tend to conserve magicka and not cast as many spells - exactly what I DON'T want. This is more of a problem of how I view things, but I note that Zaria seems to share the same concern.

That said, I have great respect for the atronach sign. It boils down to an RP thing and the atronach generally does not fit mine.

In all cases, the stunted magicka is a bit of a challenge at low levels, but can easily be compensted for with knowledge and a few levels. It is important to seek items to boost spell absorption to 100%. By mid to high levels, it can be no trouble at all. In fact filling your blue can be as easy as casting a telekinesis spell - at that point, filling your blue becomes simply another chore like healing, repairing or recharging.

It all depends on you..

If your a mage it maximizes your magicka, if your a fighter it gives you 50% defence against spell caster. Potions regenerate your Magicka faster than 100% willpower.

WHAT ARGUMENT IS THERE AGAINST THE ATRONACH??

My current character:

Name: Zakarius Svedlin
Gender: Male
Age: Early 20's
Race: Imperial
Class Name: Aksarben
Birthsign: Atronach
Specialization: Magic
Attributes: Endurance, Strength
Skills: Alchemy, Armorer, Athletics, Conjuration, Destruction, Illusion, Merchantile

Level 23 and has never died, or even been really challenged. Alchemy is LEET
