Basically, figure out who your character is, then either play as that character (only doing things they'd do), or follow them around and see what happens. Instead of trying to do everything in the game, you only do the parts that would make sense for your character.

Take a look at the topic I just posted, "An Interesting New Way to Play" and roleplay an ever-changing birthsign.

i have several different characters (all with different ways of playing lol) 1st character is an argonian and has been working on doing everything in game, 2nd character is a dunmer vampire and raids dungeons and ayleid ruins (skipping a few) my most recent though is an adventurer and does nothing but explore and lives up on Gnoll Mountain

The game is what you make it

Really no one can tell you how to role play, after a while playing rpg's you start to like a certain aspect of story or lore.
Maybe how a race speaks, or acts that is not a central part to the designed game and you start to imagine what they would be like.
Then what you would be like as one of them, untill you just start making judgements based on that, rather than what gives you the best reward.

Try thinking of a real world example lets go for an easy one, Robin Hood. Now make him an imperial forester, who's local lord was raising taxes to much and over hunting.
One day on a hunt they chased down a peasant and hunted him in some sort of ritual, Robin then takes revenge and thrown into jail when one day a commotion in the prison occours and he finds out its the emperor...

He gets free and starts a life of helping the poor people of cyrodiil with bow and light armour camping never settling. Or joining guilds just small good deeds in the effort to be a good person.

Everyone roleplays they just don't go into so much detail as some of us, really just play the game with a character, have some fun and some ideas will pop up in no time.

This.

Roleplay is all about doing what comes natural for the character. It is all about letting go of things like 'efficient leveling' and 'building up the ultimate character who weilds the ultimate weapon'.
Do what the character would do, not what you would do.
Create a list of likes and dislikes for him/her and follow them.
Spend your time living as a real person in Tamriel. Hang out in the taverns, drink and chat with the locals.
Eat, wash the clothes every few days, pray in the chapel (just press the sneak button- it makes the character feel as if they are kneeling)
Only use the skills that is natural for that type of character.
Only do the quests that fit the character build.

One thing that, in my opinion, makes Role-Playing fun is Realism. Here are some examples of things that can make you feel more like your character is an actual part of Tamriel:

Don't run all the time, mostly in Towns and Cities. If someone saw a person running at full speed up to the Bar in a Tavern, they would view that person as more than a bit strange.

Don't enter someone's House at random, I'm not sure they would apprieciate a Stranger barging into their House.

This has been said many times, but try not to use Fast Travel frequently.

Try to eat and drink realistically.

When your character comes back to Town after a Journey, they will probably want to take off their armor and put on something more comfortable.

This is only a small list of things that can improve Role-Playing experiences. I hope you found this information useful!

I think all about RP'ing, is making a character that reflects yourself, and then make him live like it was real life. That's the easiest way to explain this.
