Is there any way to get a girlfriend in Fallout 3?

Someone needs to make a romance mod.
No six please.

Yeah, a chaste virginal romance totally fits the Fallout world.

OniOne seems to know an awful lot about those mods for someone who only had them for five minutes. ;) I kept SW around for ten minutes until I discovered the description was a lie. Never did find a guy I could talk to but Captain Danvers liked me. Hmmph!

A romance companion mod would be really nice to have. You up for making one, Pistolero?

Ew. Can't stand her. I found that in my game a woman in Arefu quite liked my character. No thanks

Y'know, I could add an alternative option to my follower mod ;)

I also agree with OniOne. I had it for about ten minutes, but the horrendous spelling and grammar, not to mention there were no guys for my female character. As is always the way with such mods. sixist and totally one-sided.
The others over there aren't much better. None of them are equal, it's all about female NPC's.
Sure, those of us who don't like it could do our own, but how many posts would be flaming and insulting and downright rude? Most of them. Roberts Male Body mod comment section was trashed by immature little boys, yet many of the female ones are praised highly  I don't think I could tolerate the hate that another well-known and highly talented modder had to endure over the years. You can only ignore it for so long. IMO.

Anyway...

If you look hard enough at Falloutnexus.com you can find a seducing mod. ;)

the closest that i've come across is that one chick in Big Town that hits on you, then askes you to visit her often. other than that, no, which is a good thing.

Agreed.

I agree with this view. I really don't think there absolutely needs to be six in games, and only Bioware has pulled it off without it being tasteless.

I think six is a big part in a relationship, and a romance mod would feel a bit forced-PG13 without it - but a fade to black is much more effective than anything graphical (or, please god no, a series of badly written textboxes)

One can only hope that if they mod six and romance, they would have the decency to mod in some soap, toothpaste and a tooth brush.

It's a rather grubby wasteland out there, and I think the only wash my character has had was when he had to swim out into the river to rat the corpse of a talon merc. (That was pre-BS..after BS he went 'lurk huntin with stabhappy in the water)

Says the woman who thought I was pervy for removing his clothes to check his health during testing.

Would he still follow me afterward or would he have a "fear of commitment" and leave?

All the accusations that "if you had a real girlfriend, you shouldn't need a video game girlfriend" sound a bit unnecessarily caustic to me. Personally, I have a real girlfriend who watches me play Fallout 3, and whom I watch playing Fable II. These are examples of games that could both be handling romance in a more thematically purposeful and mature way. Bioware comes closer, but even games like Mass Effect feel relatively shallow in this regard; we share a few lines of dialog, I never even bothered to take you on missions, and now you want to sleep with me? Seriously?

Personally, I think the only time I actually "bought" a romantic connection in a game was Splinter Cell: Double Agent, and it was probably largely because the romance was largely implied and off-screen, and the entire game was third-person, so I didn't feel a weird break of immersion when the love interest hugged the protagonist (as in one of the Half Life 2 episodes, IIRC).

He's not an ordinary human, so who knows ;)

I'd rather not see him naked, thanks  But, I have seen him in his underwear. Back before we had any male body mods I was using Enclave Commander to take over Rivet City. We were taking hostages and he was one of them. I accidentally chose the option to 'confiscate' their stuff and then found him sitting there, bound, in his underwear. After the inventory exited he angrily said, "What are you doing?!' (as they do for friendly fire, but it made more sense for that situation) :lmao:

I don't have a problem with relationships in games. It was one of the things I enjoyed about Fable 2. It was nice to be able to marry and have children and even have them grow up a little bit. It was still a little one dimensional but a big part of this whole thing is still role playing which means using your own imagination. In that sense it is very possible to have a girl friend in Fallout 3 by using a companion mod and just pretending. I'm married and have children in real life but when I'm in a game world I enjoy role playing my character in a way that fits with the world they are in.

As for those other mods I mentioned earlier, I have not tried them at all. I only mentioned them because at this point they are the only thing available in that regard. That doesn't mean they are worth having obviously.

As far as six in these games they need to learn to handle it like Bioware has. No need to be graphic but six is definitely a part of most advlt relationships. It would be kind of silly to have a romance mod and leave that totally out. Bioware at least shows some tasteful clips that let you know what went down, ahem, without going into pormoland.

There's a nice girl in Megaton called Nova who'll spend time with you... for a price.

Oh yea, the http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2399 mod allows you to make a companion out of anyone you can open dialogue with. You can use this to get many of the different characters in the game to be a companion giving you many more potential girlfriends to choose from. The actual relationship would still boil down to pretending though since this mod only offers basic commands.

Still. . . trying to make a gf in Fallout 3 is like trying to stick Master Chief with Samus. . . it just shouldn't be done. I mean it would be better to just keep the girl in real life and not make one up. . . no offence of course.

Wouldn't it be better to use firearms in real life and not use made up ones? I demand that you cease shooting things!

And the game is pretty much an RPG and is good just to keep the mods to weapons, armor, and new areas.

RPG, as in Role Playing Game, as in, you know, playing a role? Like one that maybe has a relationship?

Besides, if you have a gf in real life then you shouldn't need on in the game. And besides, with all the killing, and fighting, raiding, and saving, there isn't really any time for that sort of stuff.

I have guns in real life, and indeed food and clothing too, do you not need those in the game? And really, who says I'm killing and fighting? I'm running a molerat farm.

Those mods svck. I mean, A for effort and everything, but I think the guys making them are so excited at the prospect of six, or so addled with a need for it, they overlook stuff like spelling, and uh... finesse? Most of the dialogue is beyond dire, and the execution for the romances is ridiculous. One of them turns Vera Weatherly into a six-crazed deviant from the nether regions of Satan's [censored]. The prostitution mod likewise is hilariously pants. I can't believe the time it must have taken, and what could have been achieved with the skills that person has, if he put his mind to something a little more... productive... not in the RE-productive sense of the word.

Just IMO, though... they're obviously very popular. They were on my system for about five minutes each though. ^_^

+1

I have not seen a Real romance for Fallout3 yet, but I'm still hopeful for something not focused on six.

I actually really enjoyed the Romancing Elija mod in Oblivion - that actually had some finesse to it, and was devoid of anything advlt.

I think I'm going to lock this, since the question has been answered and there's way to much destructive criticism and flaming going on here. :(

- Clover in the game calls you 'lover'.
- Romantic companion mods are certainly possible, but take time to make, and a girlfriend-type mod doesn't seem to be around yet. Check the modding boards.
- Use any other companion/follower mod and pretend.
