hi guys- got a odd ball bug here

i`ve played brink for a few hour now (completed the save the arc)

i have done a few more missions, and i`m now lvl 9

so after the last mission was completed- i clicked the exit to character screen button- this is where thing got interesting...

the game froze up completly, and i had 3 brink icons on the left side, with 3 side bars(also on the left)

my character was displayed- but there was nothing else, i figured it might be lag- so i went and made a coffee, came back, drank the coffee- game still frozen

SO

i then ctrl+alt+del, to open up the task manager- and shut the programe down
i then tried to re-run brink, but i got the following erros message in a pop up box

"Another game instance is already running. Use win_allowMultipleinstance to force"

i have not really much idea of what this is, tried a web search for the above(got some weird stuff, not pc related)

so i`ve shut down the pc, rebooted- no effect- same message

i`ve closed down steam- or tried to- it insits i have a game of brink running( NO I DO NOT)
so i suspect the server has hung it self, and my game log is still "live", despite me rebooting the pc


some help with this would be much appriciated, as i wish to keep playing- and try out the resistance !

This sounds like a Steam problem, not a Brink problem. Have you followed the recommended fixes from the Steam support page? Regardless, this is not the place to post problems like this.

You should try deleting your clientregistry.blob with steam closed, and then try starting it.

If that fails, try deleting everything in your Steam program folder except steamapps, userdata, and steam.exe. Make sure to make backups first. When you start Steam up after deleting, it should automatically rebuild clean versions of those deleted folders, essentially resetting everything except your games.

i tried that- no joy- so i`ve taken the hard line and just deleted then entire steam library, so i`ve lost all my stuff for my other game- not that fussed about it

though you say this is not being a place to post it- well it a game - called brink- made by Bethesda software- and its their help forum- and its their requirement that we use a 3rd party company (as in steam) to operate the game, so i think its a good place to post it.


Also hopefully this may assist others if they have this weird & frustrating error

Right, but if the problem persists even after quitting Brink and restarting the computer, it's clearly not an error with the Brink executable. Steam is supposed to periodically check the task manager to see if the last launched application is still running, so it can remove the "now playing: " tag from your name and allow you to launch new games. If it thinks your playing Brink before you've even started it once since startup, then the only explanation is Steam failing to reset your state to "Online".

If you buy an expensive piece of art online, and the art arrives with a shotgun blast through the packaging, do you press charges against the guy who sold it to you for selling it, or the shipping company for playing skeet with it?

(Pow! Trick question: It was a scam intended to disguise a clearly identifiable imposter piece and defer all charges to the shipping company! Didn't see that one coming, did ya?)

It's a common glitch with Brink, mine does it and some of my steam friends: the friends list says they're still playing hours after quitting the game. Hopefully SD is working with Steam on this and the other little glitches in teh game. An official announcement about a patch would be nice, however.

its just soo damn frustrating- its been over 2 days now- and still cant log on /nerdrage !!

hopefully some of the clever ppl will find out wtf is wrong and FIX IT !
i await the fix with baited breath......
