Boosting merchant stock on hand or just changing QTY

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 11:08 pm

I've sold potions back to Ajira (Balmora Mages' Guild), so I can buy several potions at once, rather than one at a time.

I tried to do the same with Nalcarya of White Haven, but the trick doesn't work with her. What do I edit to change this, so selling a potion back to her increases the number she has on hand. Or, failing that, how do I just change how many of a certain potion she can sell at once?

Dont think theres anyway ingame. If you sell potions (or whatever) to merchants, then naturally they are guna be able to sell them straight back.

Howevery if your making your own potion, obviously they arent guna be the standard potions sold (eg, its impossible to make "p_restore_health_e" potions Edit: without cheating ;) )

The only way to actually increase the number of potions sold by a merchant is to edit the number they have in the CS.

Eg, if you want nalcarya to sell 20 standard restore health potions, you would change the number to -20.

HOWEVER since im pretty sure she has (-) negative values on all her stock, all you need to do is buy all she has for sale (eg: 5), exit the dialogue, and then go to barter with her again and she'll immediately have more anyway. so dont waste your time cs'ing it.

Think this answers your querry.

Nope, that is not at all how it works. But you certainly won't take my word for it, so:

Increasing a Seller's Stock

If a vendor has a self-replenishing stock of a product, it is possible to increase the level to which the stock replenishes by reselling to the vendor. It's particularly useful for players buying ingredients in large quantities because it can be frustrating to deal with merchants who only carry 5 or 10 of a particular item. If you want to buy 50 Ash Yams despite your vendor's 5 in self-replenishing stock, you would have to begin a barter session, click the Ash Yam icon while pressing the shift key, click buy, and repeat this process another nine times.

To increase his stock you would do the following: in the first transaction purchase the vendor's 5 yams. In the second transaction, sell the 5 yams back to the vendor. The vendor now has 10 yams. In the third transaction buy 10 yams; in the fourth transaction sell the 10 yams; in the fifth transaction buy 20 yams; in the sixth transaction sell the 20 yams; in the seventh transaction buy 40 yams. With seven steps you have increased the merchant's permanent self-replenishing stock from 5 to 40. The increase is permanent, and any self-replenishing stock can be increased.

That's from the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Hints.

This worked for Ajira. Originally, she only sold 1 Sujamma at a time. I've sold some back to her, which bumped up her inventory PERMANENTLY. Now I can buy six jugs at once.

This doesn't work on Nalcarya of White Haven. I've tried selling back potions of Exclusive Restore Magica, but her stock does not permanently increase, as did Ajira's.

I'm trying to figure out why this is.

You have a mod that is effecting Nalcarya's behaviour. I thought there was an MCP option to circumvent that exploit but I'd expect it to effect Ajira & Nalcarya in the same maner. In unmodded Morrowind both NPC's will work like Ajira.

It's not an exploit. Maybe you're thinking of the "merchant bug?"

Besides, Ajira works. I said I was able to boost her stock of a certain potion. Nalcarya doesn't work. I'm trying to figure out why one works but not the other.

You can use http://www.wingrep.com/ or http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/934107-relz-tes3cmd-a-small-tool-for-modifying-tes3-plugins to determine which mods in your load order effect Ajira & Nalcarya. Since there's not enought information provided we couldn't say what's causing this. Key missing data are whether other merchants behave like Ajira or Nalcarya, is MCP installed and your load order.
