Female Bosmers?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:09 am

I wonder why that sort of thing was left out in Oblivion. Bosmer didn't have the wierd eyes or the horns in Oblivion like they had in Morrowind.

For the eyes, there's no excuse, for the head it's because there's only one model per race (even worse, all three elven and all three human races use the same head model).

Cutter?

Duchess Syl?

I did not have SI at the time I posted this. And besides, they're all crazy on the Isles.

Consumers like familiarity. Since RPGs are so much about setting, they buy games where they think they will enjoy the setting. But to make that leap before a purchase, they need to be familiar with it. So, most consumers see a sword and sorcery-style game and they know what they're getting. They have a very good idea of the setting and the kinds of things they will get to do. People are familiar with Tolkien. They know they will enjoy it. People are not familiar with a brand new sci-fi setting that X game is making up; thus they might be less interested in buying it. - http://rpgvault.ign.com/articles/426/426475p1.html

This made me realize that Khajiit were supposedly made from Bosmers, supposedly, but they don't follow the same sixual dimorphism. Not by a long shot.

That would be a misunderstanding. While Forest-People might seem to refer to Bosmer at first glance, on closer inspection you'll find that these forest people were trapped between man, beast and plants, so they were people somewhat without form. Y'ffre then made Elves out of the forest people* as such the Bosmer dimorphism and all other traits of Mer came later.

*Not literally ofcourse but rather he provided the stability that allowed everything to stick to it's form.

anologous to "humans evolved from chimpanzees". No, they both evolved from a common ancestor that was neither chimp nor human (or neither Bosmer nor Khajiit).

For the eyes, there's no excuse.

I disagree. Not all Bosmer had the characteristic insectoid black eyes in Morrowind. Actually, I seem to recall it was only a minority of the available Bosmer heads that did. It is entirely reasonable to suggest that the (lore) reason Bosmer in Oblivion don't have black eyes is that, just through random chance, none of the Bosmer NPCs you happen to meet in Cyrodiil have black eyes.

As an anology, I know a significant proportion of German people have blue eyes. But if I go on holiday to France (where any Germans would be visitors, as Bosmer are to Cyrodiil) and all the Germans I meet happen to have brown or green eyes, that doesn't imply that something nasty has happened to all the blue-eyed Germans.

for the head it's because there's only one model per race

It would have been trivially easy to include a unique Bosmer-only hair mesh that included little horns. They did it for the Dremora.

"The forest people"?
Just to make things clear (though I feel incredibly stupid for even asking this) the stability he provided enabled other creatures to "constantly be" other creatures as well, right? Y'ffre's not responsible only for the elves, is he?

I disagree. Not all Bosmer had the characteristic insectoid black eyes in Morrowind.

And did I say they should have had only this choice of eye in Oblivion? No, I didn't. C'm'on, adding a 128x128 solid black DDS file wasn't going to bust any space quota they had. They could have provided that option for Bosmer. They didn't -- there's no excuse.

It's very minor and easily fixed by mods, so it doesn't really matter, but "it doesn't matter" is no excuse either.

I don't remember which book it was where it was said that Bosmer women are very pleasant to the senses of males of all races while male Bosmer are just... male Bosmer. :D

It seems the services of Bosmer girls are quite requisited.

Dunno about that, but i remember reading somewhere that they get along well with male orcs ;)

I once read, Bosmer being hyperactive, the female Bosmers always lock them in cages, but that is logically a negative influence on their growing process.
