It's psychics, basically. Mind based manipulation of the fabric of magic... or so I gathered. Not much mentioned about it, really.

Psijics are a super powerful group of mages that live on the island of Artaeum in the Summerset Isles. There is quite a lot of information on them on http://www.imperial-library.info/

They generally work as advisors to powerful people. The follow something called the Old Ways. They also invented the Mysticism school of magic. They are very powerful.

Some famous ex-Psijics are Sotha Sil (God of Morrowind), Davith Fyr, Vanus Galerion (founder of Mage's Guild) and Mannimarco.

This should go into the Lore section. You could get a lot of information there.

Somewhere along the way, the Psijic order was made into this rather clich? group of "the world's most powerful mages" (which is of course why Sil, Fyr and Galerion were part of the order, and not the other way around), but one should keep in mind that they originally broke with the Al(d/t)mer because of religious/doctrinary disputes.

From what I gathered, they're a bunch of very capable mages who decided to leave Summerset by way of a moving Island.

Ha! A rather appealing anologue, but it's not all that accurate. True, the Mentats and Psijics both serve as advisors to kings and leaders, but that's about where the similarity ends.

For those of you not schooled in classic science-fiction literature,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mentat.

They are more of a catch phrase than an organization we know anything about.

They're the Mentats of TES.

As kind as that is, I don't think the OP is going to return to thank you for an answer to a topic he posted two months ago and probably already found by searching the first link given to him.

Yeah, I just caught that. Why do people do that?

I can see bringing up a point for discussion and not wanting to make another thread, but attempting to answer a question that was asked so long ago.... He MAY thank you, but it's less than likely he needs it now.

Magely ones, more likely than not. Intelligence based, philosophical people. But if you're looking for a set of skills to make a character with, then real people don't conform to stock skill sets like that. I mean, I once met a girl who was a receptionist but wanted to be a mechanic. I was baffled. Maybe she was multi-classing.

I approached it from the perspective of "What classes do they teach at Crystal Like Law tower?"

Mysticism, (We have examples of it in "last year")
Alteration (Again, in "Last year")
Conjuration (they have one of the few means of reaching oblivion from Mundus on their campus---- heavily guarded of course.)

Others would be required to help with mental fortitude:
Illusion-- One needs to understand this, to prevent from being manipulated.
Speech craft-- Must be well-spoken in order to engage in high courts.
Mercantile-- Similar to above.

There would also likely be some light combat training for advanced members, even though Psiiijjj seem to be mostly passive aggressive.

Not if she svcked at her receptionist job.

That's like a Nordic Barbarian trying to cast Dispel from a Dunmer witch in Morrowind.

Or trying to get Sneakers O'Toole to take his sneakers off. Whichever is more relevant. I'm tired right now.

I thought that Crystal Tower was on the main isle of Summerset, and that the Psijics lived on a shrouded isle?

Apparently so.. "artaeum"-- Argh. Anyway, "That place wherein the psiiijjj are trained." --- We have those examples of education from "last year" to go by.

Crystal-like-law isn't on Artaeum...

But yeah, sure, the Psijjjjjjjics probably appeal to a limited group who might have those skills. Or they might place on emphasis on teaching them. But one of the best things about TES is that you aren't boxed in by what class you pick. If you want to make a ranger who can't handle a bow, then go ahead. If you want to make a wizard who feels comfortable in heavy armour, then that's cool. And if you want to make a Psijic who the last time he went to court unintentionally gave a backhanded compliment about the duchess's very plain daughter, then that's not only all right, that's characterisation, and therefore great. Because not all Psijics are going to be supermage diplomats. Considering how the island disappears all the time, they could just as easily be hopeless shutins who try to make themselves look smart by writing incomprehensible postmodernist essays or something. If I remember correctly, the 2920 series just showed us some sententious lessons and a test of willpower, which leaves plenty room to work.

Feel free to offer skill sets, but I personally like the idea of a general guide based on what they do, not a set of rules for what they are. The only essential I see would be something like Mysticism.

Thank you for somewhat dispelling Hogwarts. I am already trying hard to so. And it's deconstructionist essays, by the way.

Seriously, though, skillsets are the gameplay element most counterintuitive to interesting characters.
