Levitation is broken

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:09 am

So, my levitation is broken in my game. I don't know why, but when I levitate instead of being able to fly, my character gets the levitation effect, and he DOES hover, however the sound that plays when you land a jump keeps repeating endlessly, and my character looks like he's in mid jump. I can't move upwards, I can only move forward, back, and side to side. This happens with my current character, however if I start a new game and add the levitate spell to him, levitate works fine, which makes me think it's got nothing or little to do with any mods I have installed. I must have messed something up along the way,, but I don't know what, and if anybody has any ideas please let me know because I don't want to have to start a new character, and using tcl can be problematic so I'd like to just have the ability to levitate. Besides, as a Telvanni, being unable to levitate is super annoying.

Ok, I think I figured out when the problem started. It SEEMS to have started around the time I activated the Shrine of Daring where you get the 24 hour levitation blessing. I seem to remember myself having to wait 24 hours to get into the puzzle canol to do the Shrine of Courtesy because I wasn't levitating right and I couldn't jump while levitating. Anyways, if there's a way to fix this bug while keeping my existing character, and not having to reload a pre-Shrine of Daring save, that'd be wonderful. If not, that's really svcky, but I can deal with it if it's the ONLY option.

EDIT - I have confirmed that the bug was caused when I used the Shrine of Daring. When I loaded the save just prior to using it, levitate worked. The Shrine also worked properly when I used it this time, and didn't bug my levitation after I used it. However, when I loaded a save I made about 5 minutes after using the Shrine of Daring, my levitation had been bugged. How do I fix this without loading a save from 20 hours ago?? I really don't want to have to repeat everything I've done for the last week or so.

Does nobody have any clue what's wrong here? I'm sure it's as simple as some messed up variable somewhere and I doubt I'm the first person to ever experience this bug in the the nearly 10 years this game has been being played... If only I was a little more cs/script literate, I could try and fix it myself.

Have you tried the removespelleffects command? I'm not sure of the syntax on that one but maybe: removespelleffects levitate. You might need, player-> in front.

Just tried that, still no luck. I tried casting a levitate spell and then using it, and casting it again, still bugged. It's like I activated the Shrine of Daring mid-jump, and it for some reason made every levitation do that from now on. It's really messed up. My character is also an Atronach, so maybe the spell absorption messed something up, maybe it was the shrine, I don't know. All I know is that I REALLY REALLY don't want to restart over something so stupid. If I have to, I'll just play the game without levitate I guess, but that is just totally [censored] that a shrine that came with the game is causing this bug. I don't have any mods that messed with the shrine, and this has never happened before, but I can verify that it happened as soon as I used the shrine.

As you're running mods, it can't hurt to post about your problem in that forum. You'll have plenty of people to look at your list--and you never know how mods will interact.

I'll try that as well then. I was fairly certain this wasn't a mod problem, however you're right, sometimes there's just no telling what weird bug a mod might cause.

Activating the Shrine of Daring with God mode (TGM) active has been known to cause problems with levitation from then on. I'm not sure if there's a fix, it might require starting a new game.

This is probably a long shot, but it's pretty odd the jump-landing sound is involved. This only brings to my mind that you might've originally interacted with the Shrine of Daring DURING a jump, causing a previously undocumented problem. (You said it worked fine the next time you tried the save prior to interacting with the shrine. Presumably you didn't jump this time around and everything worked normally...)

If this truly is what's wrong in your game right now... what if you tried to levitate during a jump (drink a levitate potion while you're in the air right after a jump) to negate the effect? lol

If that works, call me a genius. <_<

That was a pretty genius idea, I hadn't thought of that. Unfortunately it didn't work. HOWEVER, I SOLVED IT!!!!!!!!!! I had to type player->setflying 1 and then cast levitate. If I then use player->setflying 0, the bug comes back, but I can just leave flying to 1 with no problems so far. I think I did hit the shrine of daring in mid jump, as I was coming from the Shrine of Generosity on Vivec's front porch, and I cast Tinur's Hoptoad to just get over to the Shrine of Daring quicker.
So a word of warning to any Tribunal Temple Initiates! Never activate shrines while jumping, it displeases Almsivi greatly and you will have to spend a whole day trying to appease them in order to continue your travels!

Thank you guys a lot for helping me fix this problem!

Lol just go to a bed and sleep away the 24 hours. This happened in one of my games years ago. You can still sleep when using a levitation spell.

Lol wasn't my problem at all, sorry. Over 30 days had passed, I hardly needed to sleep another 24. I just had to setflying 1 while levitating and then setflying 0.
